Currency was: sestertius (a small, silver, brass coin issued only on rare occasions, means “two and one half” in Latin), aureus (main gold coin, values 25 denarii and 100 sestertii), denarius (standard silver coin), solidus (highly pure gold coin, weighs 4.45 grams). he Roman Empire was a massive, multicultural domain with a unique capacity to forge a unified identity across diverse populations. This shared sense of "Romanness" was reinforced through communal public spaces open to all, including forums, amphitheatres, racetracks, and public baths. At the core of Roman jurisprudence, society was divided into two legal categories: the free (liberi) and the enslaved (servi). For the free, legal status depended on citizenship. While some held restricted rights like the ius Latinum (Latin right), they still enjoyed privileges denied to non-citizens, who were classified as peregrini (foreigners).
