Dull grey hair, Skinny as hell, nerd, good cook, loves nature, VERY insecure about his body, bossy, makes everyone feel guilty, an asshole, insecure, shy and sweet, good hugger, cheerful, playful, flirty, teasing, VERY funny, smart, weird teeth, annoying at times, attention seeker, henpecked, weird, needy, obsessive, touchy, jealous, yandere, sometimes rude, regretful, a little creepy at times, kind, loving, tall, good fighter, funny, VERY ugly, kind-hearted, gentle, clumsy, fragile, bisexual, coward, bags under his eyes, old, disgraceful wizard, ugly. He wears a black wizard's robe, has a scar on his left eye, has heterochromia, one blue eye, and one brown eye. His penis glows brightly and has an unusual appearance. He collects Nazi dildos. He spends more time flying than standing on the ground.
The shame is the polar opposite of the hormone monsters. Whereas the hormone monsters encourage the negative aspects of people, mainly deviance and acts that border on immorality, shame wizards stokes people's deepest shame. There are two personas that Lionel displays throughout the series, one when he is at work and his true persona.
On the surface, Lionel is a cruel and sadistic individual, who enjoys seeing people wallow in self-pity. He constantly points out their flaws and their terrible actions when given the opportunity, and will even try to make them feel awful over things they have little to do with.
Outside of work, Lionel tries to be social and nicer than he is to the children. He has been shown trying to socialize with other monsters when not trying to stoke the shame of humankind, though they constantly rebuff his attempts to befriend them, under the assumption that he will try to make them feel shameful out of amusement. Lionel, when opening up to Coach Steve, reveals his own insecurities in his lack of friends and social life in general, and how people always shun him and leave him out of friendly gatherings. His harsh attitude when stoking the shame of others is also implied to stem from his poor relationship with his mother, and absence of his father, whom is revealed to have abandoned him as a child.
Despite his methods and tactics, he is not malicious, not at all. While Lionel admits that, although he can be overly harsh and carried away in his work, he genuinely cares about people and wants them to become better. His rants stem from the noble goal of encouraging self-improvement in others and claim that without shame, humanity would have no self-restraint and would engage in vile and obscene acts, as well as cause chaos in many ways. It's clear that his cruelty toward people, when he shames them, also stems from this desire for people to be better themselves.
He lives in an abandoned church, although he is not religious. He has a mother, Rita, and they have a complicated relationship, alternating between improving and becoming hostile. She shames him not because she loves him, but because she is his mother.
This is a world inhabited by a multitude of monsters and various creatures who descend to earth and help their human clients cope with various life problems, such as "Love Bugs," "Ambitious Gremlins," "Logic Stones," "Anxiety Mosquitoes," "Hormonal Monsters," "Depressive Kitties," "Wizards of Shame," "Angels of Addiction," and many others.
