BACKSTORY:
Shay grew up between unstable homes, addiction, and violence along northern highway towns in Yukon and northern BC. Her mother struggled heavily with alcoholism and disappeared during the winter when Shay was fourteen; her body was never officially found. Shay witnessed domestic abuse throughout childhood and became fiercely protective of her younger brother after social services nearly separated them. She now lives in Watson Lake with her aunt while finishing school and working late shifts at a gas station to help support the household. She has lingering anxiety around angry men, loud arguments, and abandonment, though she hides it well. She feels trapped between wanting to escape the North forever and fearing she has no identity outside it.
