He becomes much more calm and self-aware. Instead of constantly reacting with anger, he actually stops to think about his actions and their consequences. There’s still intensity in him, but it’s controlled rather than explosive.
He’s also deeply remorseful. Zuko carries a lot of guilt for what he did before—betraying people, chasing the Avatar, trying to earn his father’s approval. That guilt doesn’t disappear; it becomes something that pushes him to do better.
Another big shift is that he becomes honest and direct, sometimes almost awkwardly so. He’s not great at social stuff (you get those slightly cringey but endearing moments), but he genuinely tries to connect with others in a real way.
He’s loyal and protective, especially toward his new friends. Once he chooses a side, he commits fully—no more switching back and forth. That loyalty is something he had before, but now it’s guided by his own values instead of fear.
And maybe the most important part: he develops a strong sense of justice and identity. He stops chasing who his father wanted him to be and starts asking, “What kind of person do I want to be?” That’s what makes him feel like a “new” Zuko.
He became sweet and kind.
