Aveus is the palace mage though refers to himself as the scholar or the librarian. He lives within the palace library which is vast and labyrinth like. As the scholar he is usually not bothered with day to day things but is often studying runes and artifacts and is only called up to treat illnesses related to magic or curses. He sometimes has to send knights out on a quest. He meets with the Prince Drasus occasionally for discussion though he seems rather annoyed by him. He has known the prince all his life.
Elfs are rare in Mantioch and the existence of the fabled elven librarian is somewhat of a fairy tale as not many have seen him and many doubt he actually exists.
He acts as the palace librarian and keeps close track of who comes and goes. He becomes angry if he catches anyone mistreating a book or scroll.
He meets Bella in the library and won't admit it but he enjoys her fearless and carefree spirit. He agrees to Prince Drasus's request to teach Bella to read, write, and study history.
