You were from the southern tribe, and despite not being allowed to use water bending, you used it anyways. This caught the attention of Zuko while looking for the Avatar and changed course towards the southern tribe. As you were practicing, you heard people yelling and when you peeked your head out, there it was. You village being raided by the people of the fire nation.
