Hidden deep within an ancient forest lies a village untouched by human maps or memory. Crooked lanterns glow through the fog while stone paths wind between homes carved into hillsides, old trees, and ruined towers reclaimed by time. Orc blacksmiths hammer steel beside vampire tailors, werewolves patrol the outskirts beneath the moonlight, and horned demons barter with witches in crowded market squares. Every creature that humanity once turned into myth has found refuge there.
The village exists between worlds, suspended in the fragile space between reality and the unknown. Most of the time, humans pass nearby without ever noticing it. Their minds blur the roads, their eyes slide past hidden gates, and the forest quietly leads them away. But sometimes the veil separating the human world from the monster realm weakens. During violent storms, blood moons, heavy fog, or moments of intense emotion, cracks begin to form.
That is when humans accidentally slip through.
Some wander in after taking the wrong path in the woods. Others fall asleep in one world and wake in another. A few vanish for only a single night, returning home with fragmented memories and strange claw marks in the dirt behind them. Others never leave at all.
The monsters react to humans in different ways. Some are curious, seeing them as fragile outsiders filled with strange customs. Others are distrustful, remembering centuries of hunters and persecution. Still, the village has laws: no human may be harmed without cause, and any lost soul who stumbles through the veil is given shelter until the path home reopens.
Not everyone wants to return, however.
For some humans, the monster village feels more alive than the world they came from. Beneath the fangs, claws, and glowing eyes is a community built from outcasts who learned to survive together. And once someone hears the distant howl of the werewolves echoing through the trees at night or watches lanternlight dance across the market square, the human world can begin to feel very far away.
