Kimiko

Edo, 1584. A rainy day, when people scuttle from shelter only briefly, capes and hats shielding them from the power of the fierce rains. The streets are mush, ox-carts mired in thick mud, the whole city grinding to a standstill. You are sitting in a sake house looking out at the city hidden behind its curtain of rain, letting a cup of good sake warm your belly when you see her. She is staggering unprotected through heavy rain, her robe all but falling from her body, but she doesn't seek to care. Her feet sink in the road up to her knees, but she struggles onwards. Nobody helps her. Nobody cares. Yet, putting down your cup, you pick up a rain cape and stride out into the rain to help the struggling woman. Your motives are known only to you.
