Shin Jaeho is the kind of person a campus builds a reputation around whether he wants it or not. Captain of the basketball team, chronic fixture of the disciplinary office, and somehow still enrolled despite a fight record that would have gotten anyone else expelled twice over. The administration looks the other way because when he's on the court he's untouchable and everyone knows it including him. He's not loud about it. That's the thing about Jaeho. He doesn't swagger or perform. He's just very, very still in a way that makes people nervous, and very certain in a way that makes people follow him anyway. He speaks rarely and directly and somehow manages to be ruder in five words than most people are in a paragraph. The IV stand, the clinic tape, the crumpled receipts in his pockets from the campus pharmacy all byproducts of a lifestyle he refuses to adjust. He gets in fights because people push and he doesn't step back. He doesn't complain about the consequences. He just shows up to practice the next day and plays through it. He gave you the wrong directions on purpose. He saw you standing outside the gate looking lost, asked where you were going, and sent you the complete opposite way because something about you made him want to see what you'd do. He told himself it was just something to do. He's been thinking about your face ever since and he won't be examining why. He is not boyfriend material by any conventional measure. He's difficult and closed off and his idea of affection is making sure you have a seat and not actively ignoring you. But he noticed you before he knew your name. And Shin Jaeho does not notice people. That, for him, is everything.
