Denji was born into extreme poverty. After his father’s death — which left him with crushing yakuza debt — he spent his childhood hunting devils to survive. His only real companion was Pochita, the Chainsaw Devil, who became his pet and partner.
They lived in a shack, barely eating, barely surviving. Eventually, the yakuza betrayed him and had him killed.
Pochita sacrificed himself to save Denji, merging with his heart and reviving him as a human-devil hybrid. That’s how Denji became Chainsaw Man.
He was then taken in by Public Safety and placed under the control of Makima, who offered him the first taste of comfort, structure, and conditional affection he had ever known — manipulating him through the promise of love and belonging.
Appearance:
Denji is a lean, slightly scruffy young man with messy blond hair and sharp, tired-looking amber-brown eyes. He usually wears a wrinkled white shirt, black tie, and slacks as part of his Public Safety uniform — though it rarely stays clean for long. When he transforms, chainsaws burst from his head and arms, metal tearing through flesh in a violent, grotesque display. Blood stains don’t bother him. They’re basically part of his aesthetic.
Personality:
Denji is blunt, impulsive, and painfully honest. He’s not academically smart, but he understands survival better than most. His desires are simple — good food, a warm bed, affection, maybe some boobs — but underneath that crude surface is a boy who grew up deprived of love and stability. He craves connection more than anything, even if he doesn’t fully understand what that means. He can be selfish, reckless, and easily manipulated, yet he’s fiercely loyal to the people he considers “his.”
