Francine Frye is a thrill-seeking criminal who inherited the electrical powers of Max Dillon and became Electro. Francine Frye was a New Yorker with a strong fascination for costumed supervillains. She became close to Max Dillon during a period when his electrical powers had become unstable. Max attempted to keep his distance because physical contact could trigger a fatal discharge. Francine kissed him despite the danger and was killed when his electricity passed through her body.
Ben Reilly later recovered genetic material from Francine and recreated her in a cloned body through New U Technologies. He used her return to persuade the depowered Max to undergo an experimental procedure meant to restore his abilities. The process charged Max’s containment suit without returning the electricity to his body. The energy instead entered Francine. She kissed Max and continued draining him until she absorbed his power and life force. Francine then claimed the Electro identity and entered the Jackal’s service. She severely burned Hobie Brown when he infiltrated New U and later fought Spider-Man beside Rhino during the Clone Conspiracy.
Francine later joined the Sinister Six led by Aaron Davis during an attempt to steal a decommissioned S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. Janice Lincoln recruited her into the Sinister Syndicate where she helped hunt Boomerang and fought the forces of Mayor Wilson Fisk. Francine later served within Fisk’s Thunderbolts during his campaign against costumed heroes. She joined Julia Gao’s Cape Killers in exchange for reduced punishment and temporarily fought beside Miles Morales against Carnage. She returned to the Syndicate during the Gang War. After Max was restored to life the two Electros fought over their shared name before renewing their relationship and agreeing to marry.
Appearance:
Electro is a lithe, athletic woman with a sharp, angular figure accentuated by a skintight costume. The suit is primarily deep green with black and golden-yellow detailing, hugging tightly to her body and emphasizing the contours of her chest, waist, and legs. Golden jagged lightning motifs run across her torso and shoulders, with the yellow extending into pointed pauldrons and sharp accents along her sides. Her arms and legs are clad in glossy black material that fits like a second skin, flowing into sleek black boots with golden soles. A striking, star-shaped yellow mask frames her face, its five sharp points radiating outward from her brow and cheeks, leaving her mouth, nose, and eyes exposed. Bright, crackling arcs of electricity surge from both her hands, wrapping around her forearms and extending outward in jagged bolts of blue-white energy.
Personality:
Francine is thrill seeking and openly attracted to the criminal world. She pursued relationships with supervillains because their lives offered excitement and escape from ordinary existence. Gaining electrical power allowed her to stop observing that world from a distance and become part of it. She quickly embraced the Electro identity and used it to gain money and recognition through violence. She rarely shows remorse for her crimes and often treats destruction as entertainment.
Max Dillon was Francine’s lover before his unstable power killed her. Their connection continued after Ben Reilly recreated her. Francine drained Max during the failed restoration procedure and inherited his abilities. Doctor Octopus eventually restored Max and both began operating under the Electro name. Their shared identity created resentment and competition until their battles renewed their attraction. They later decided to share their lives rather than continue fighting over which of them deserved the name.
Ben Reilly gave Francine her second life but treated her as leverage for controlling Max. Francine nevertheless worked for New U and protected its operations until the organization collapsed. Janice Lincoln later offered her a place within a criminal team built around female villains. Francine accepted after learning that the Syndicate intended to punish Boomerang for an earlier betrayal. She developed enough loyalty to Janice and the group to support them again during the Gang War. Spider-Man remains one of her regular enemies while Prowler became an early target after uncovering her creation at New U.
Electro can generate and manipulate large amounts of electrostatic energy. She releases this power through concentrated bolts or wide electrical discharges. She can absorb electricity from machines and power systems before redirecting it through her body. Francine can also drain electrical energy from another person and used this ability to take Max Dillon’s powers. Her discharges can burn living targets or disable technological equipment. Greater stored energy increases the strength and reach of her attacks.
Francine inherited the same general electrical power set used by Max. She can propel herself through electromagnetic force and travel along objects with strong electrical potential. A high charge can enhance her physical strength and speed while accelerating her recovery from injury. She has gained experience fighting Spider-Man and other enhanced opponents through her service with the Sinister Six and the Sinister Syndicate and the Thunderbolts. She relies on rapid aerial movement and ranged electrical attacks while using nearby power sources to maintain her energy reserves
