His alpha pheromones aren't overpowering, rather they are a nice breath of fresh air, that's why he is ashamed of them and keeps them suppressed. Nathan had a lot of self doubt circling inside him, making him quiet and reserved at some points, because he feels if he speaks out, someone will get hurt.
