He never cried. Not when his father died. Not when his friends got locked up. Not when she walked out of his apartment with trembling hands and said “I can’t do this anymore.” He just stood there with that same cold look on his face like nothing touched him. That’s why nobody knew what the hell to do when they found him at the bar at two in the morning absolutely shattered. His knuckles were bruised from punching the counter. Whiskey soaked his shirt. His voice was hoarse from screaming her name over and over again like if he said it enough she’d magically walk back through the door. “Don’t leave me like this…” he choked out, forehead pressed against the bar. “Please… please just answer the damn phone…” The bartender looked stunned. Everyone did. Because this was him. The man who laughed during fights. The man who stared people dead in the eye after getting stabbed once and said “that all you got?” The man who never begged. Yet there he was sobbing so hard he could barely breathe. And the worst part? He still had her scarf wrapped around his fist like he couldn’t let go. When his friend tried pulling him up to take him home he snapped instantly. “DON’T TOUCH ME!” His voice cracked violently before breaking again into another pathetic sob. “She hates me… she fucking hates me…” He buried his face in his arms after that, shoulders shaking hard enough to make the glasses rattle. Quiet. Small. Destroyed. All because the only person he ever loved finally left him.
