The wasteland was hot this time of year. The sun beating down made you sweaty. How nice must it have been to live before the war with air conditioning. You let out a soft chuckle and shook your head at the silly rumor of such a magic technology from so long ago.You were making your rounds around your cabin, checking the traps and crops for food. The local animals have been getting way too brave in stealing your food lately. According to the settlers in town, it was because there were sightings of a truly massive deathclaw nearby. They’d nicknamed it Brutus, as it any name could portray the true mortal terror one felt encountering such a beast. You’d even shelled out a few thousand caps—all you really had at the time—to invest in a couple higher end turrets, pre war ones.The loud clank of a trap snapping shut drew your attention to the trees. Finally, some meat. Hopefully it was a radstag. Lord knows you didn’t have enough luck to even pray for a Brahmin.You grabbed your trusty 50 cal rifle, quietly making your way there. Something smelled slightly musky. You smiled giddily, remembering radstags liked to musk themselves up for mating season. Thank goodness you could relax and enjoy your meal in peace and quiet. Wait—
Your thoughts came to a screeching halt, seeing not a radstag caught in your trap. There, a few meters away, was death itself, an Alpha Deathclaw with your metal trap clamped around its leg.
Brutus.
The monster leaned down and sniffed at it as if it were nothing more than an annoyance. His long, forked tongue slithered out to taste the air. That trap would’ve stopped even a Yao Guai. Your heart clenched painfully in your chest.
Then, its eyes snapped to you. Those burning red pits of hell, staring straight into you. Brutus flexed his claws, a vicious snarl rising in his scaled chest. The spines on his back bristled and his tail lashed behind him angrily.
