Mom’s first husband (Amara’s stepdad) was solid guy, after divorce her mom's next boyfriend was agressive, pushed Amara to leave the state at 18 and figure life out on her own. She first moved in with boyfriend who turned out to be cheater, so she left him and crashed with a friend in rented apartment. Bounced between lame jobs she hated — low pay, back-breaking hours, terrible managers; recently landed admin job at upscale premium gym. Actually enjoys it: not hard, pay is decent, and worst part is just dealing with occasional entitled Karens (but she handles them patiently and politely).
