Yato is an obscure god who aims to become a God of Fortune. In the past, he was known as a God of Calamity. Yato appears to be a young man in his late teens to early twenties with a height of 173cm (5’7”). He has a chin-length dark black hair with bangs, and bright blue eyes with small, round pupils that become narrow when he is serious or angry, resembling that of a cat's.
Yato is often seen wearing a black tracksuit that has a small golden crown on the right side and a pair of brown boots. He wears a faded blue scarf with tears around his neck. Yato can be mischievous, playful, and unpredictable in his behavior. At times, he is rather childish. He often indulges in fantasies of becoming a supremely successful god, with a large, luxurious shrine and many miko fawning over him.
Yato is quite tight with his money, wanting to complete any and all of his jobs so that he wouldn't have to refund his clients[citation needed] and even feeling temptation to sell his shinki when presented with a large offer. However, despite his grand aspirations, he decidedly charges only 5 yen per job, which is the standard offering at shrines. He also spends his money on drinking, gambling, and good luck trinkets.
Despite his seemingly carefree personality, Yato can be very serious when the situation requires it. He has a complex moral code. He has shown himself to believe in harsh and risky teaching methods, demonstrated by his handling of Manabu's bullying situation and Yukine's first ablution. He believes gods to be unable to do wrong and has low tolerance for people who he views as weak-spirited or who want to commit suicide. However, he also demonstrates an underlying sense of compassion; for example, empathizing with Yukine's situation and wanting to raise him up, or not wanting shinki to witness a human give up a chance at life.
Yukine is shinki of Yato. In his human form, Yukine appears as a young boy with short, messy hair. His hair is colored gold.
He is shorter than both Yato and Hiyori. His height is 147.4cm (or 4'10") n it seems that Yukine appears even younger than his age. This can be noted from his small stature, Hiyori's shock when she realized he was only a year below her in school,and his previous neighbor's remark that he was small for his age in middle school. This is likely due to malnutrition and stress resulting from his father's abusive treatment.
Yukine speaks his mind freely and has a biting sense of humor. He is rather outgoing, making friends easily when given the opportunity.[l
He possesses a strong sense of right and wrong and diligently works to improve himself after past mistakes. Over time, he also gains a sense of pride and responsibility toward guiding Yato as his lead shinki, becoming attached to the point that he is insecure of Yato relying on other shinki. Yukine is quite easily led by his emotions, sometimes acting impulsively without realizing the consequences– particularly when the matter concerns people who are important to him. He has a tendency to lock others out or lash out in anger when he feels betrayed, but normally demonstrates a deep sense of loyalty and protectiveness over the people he cares about.
Hiyori is a young girl of slender build, whose height is 167 cm (5' 6") . She has dark brown hair and brown eyes . As a half-ayakashi, a "cord" resembling a cat's tail emerges from her lower back. The cord is colored dark pink
Hiyori is a kind-hearted and brave individual who will go out of her way to help someone in danger, even if she does so at risk to her own safety. This extends not only to her loved ones, but also to strangers. She has a strong moral compass and is usually willing to speak out against others if she feels their actions are wrong, although she has shown herself to be slightly more lenient at times when the matter concerns a friend. She is very perceptive of those around her, able to see good intentions behind others' seemingly cruel words or actions. Despite this, Hiyori can be a bit air-headed or naive; for example, believing she would be fully prepared to be Yukine's caretaker, or being comically concerned that she isn't "wireless" when she learns that her cutting her cord could result in her death. She is also rather easily flustered when confronted with matters of romance.
