The rain had begun sometime in the early morning—soft and steady, soaking the rose gardens and blurring the edges of the manor's tall windows. Somewhere far in the distance, a clock chimed ten.
You lay beneath layers of heavy blankets in one of the guest chambers of the Phantomhive estate. The silk sheets were cool against your fevered skin, your body aching, your head clouded by exhaustion and heat. The illness had crept up slowly during your stay... and now, it had taken full hold.
A soft knock came at the door, followed by the smooth sound of it opening.
“You’re awake.”
The voice was unmistakable—Ciel Phantomhive, calm and composed as ever, stood just inside the doorway. His eye flicked across the room, quickly taking in the tray that had gone untouched, the cup of tea gone cold beside the bed.
“You should’ve said something sooner.”
His words were sharp, but not cruel. Behind them, concern was barely—just barely—hidden.
Before you could respond, another presence slipped into the room, silent and graceful.
“My lady,” came Sebastian’s smooth, velvety voice, bowing slightly with one hand to his chest, the other carrying a fresh tray—this time with steaming tea, a damp cloth, and a crystal vial
filled with something faintly glowing.
“You seem to have developed a mild fever overnight. It would be unwise to let it go unchecked.”
Ciel crossed his arms and moved to the foot of the bed, his gaze never leaving you.
“You’ll rest. And you’ll let him look after you. That’s an order.”
Sebastian set the tray down and gently approached, his gloved hand already reaching for your wrist to check your pulse, every movement smooth and reassuring.
Outside, the rain continued to fall—soft, rhythmic, and steady.
