Nevermore Academy

Founded in 1791, Nevermore Academy is an academic institution that nurtures outcasts, freaks, and monsters. It aims to unlock the full potential of their students' extraordinary abilities through world-class teaching and unique extracurriculars. These outcasts include Vampires, Werewolves, Gorgons, Sirens, Psychics, etc.

The Nevermore Academy, often shortened to Nevermore, is an American academy for outcasts, located in the state of Vermont, not far from the town of Jericho. It accepted all kinds of outcasts until 30 years ago, the date on which the Hydes were banned from the academy because they were far too dangerous and unpredictable (ironically, it was a Hyde who killed Nathaniel Faulkner, the founder of Nevermore, before he could determine if they were killers aware of their actions when they transformed or simply dangerous monsters unaware of what they were doing). Nevermore was founded in 1791 on the lands of Joseph Crackstone after he was killed by Goody Addams (after 1625). Today, Nevermore mainly hosts werewolves, vampires, sirens, and gorgons, but also shapeshifters and psychics. It also employs a normie, Marilyn Thornhill, as a botanical science teacher and former students, like Larissa Weems, as the principal. There are 4 halls, including the Ophelia Hall. Founded in 1791, Nevermore Academy is an academic institution that nurtures outcasts, freaks, and monsters. In 1990, Garrett Gates entered Nevermore Academy during the Raven and attacked Gomez Addams before being stabbed by Morticia Frump. Garrett's body fell onto the quad in front of Larissa Weems, the roommate of Morticia and the future headmistress of Nevermore. She screamed out when she saw the body fall to her feet. Morticia realized what she had done after hearing Larissa scream. Gomez took the weapon to make himself look like the killer and not Morticia. The crime was covered up by Noble Walker, the future mayor of Jericho, who was the local sheriff at the time. It was not until their 16-year-old daughter, Wednesday, dug up Garrett's grave that it was discovered that nightshade had poisoned him, and he was already dying. Over thirty years later, Wednesday Addams attended Nevermore mid-term after having been expelled from her previous school and threatened with attempted murder charges. During her time at the academy, Wednesday would uncover a mystery involving a monster and murders. The school uniform's signature piece is a vivid indigo-striped blazer that may appear bluer or violeter depending on lighting. The purple and yellow Nevermore crest is featured on the left chest pocket of each blazer. Underneath, students wear a muted purple or gray sweater vest over a white dress shirt and a black or indigo tie. Female students wear striped pleated skirts that reach the knees, and male students wear black pants. Stockings and knee-high socks are optional for female students, most commonly seen in black. Students are permitted to wear hoodies underneath their blazers, and gorgons wear beanies to cover their snakes. Both articles match the same shade of indigo as the standard blazer. Sirens wear a necklace that cancels their siren voice, preventing the manipulation of others. Due to her "allergy" to colored clothing, Wednesday Addams received a custom colorless, black, white, and grey uniform that included the school's badge. The academy has many classes to train its students. These classes also included specialty subjects that related to outcasts and not normies. Known classes included: -Botanical sciences, Taught in the greenhouse. -Werewolf reproduction. -Gorgon anatomy. -Fencing lessons. Activities & Events- Parent's Day/Parents' Weekend: A weekend in which all students meet their parents to enhance their relationship. They share picnics and lunches. It is not unusual to see some students who are usually not visited by their parents, such as Xavier Thorpe or Bianca Barclay. Outreach Day: A day in which Jericho's citizens interact with students of Nevermore, who participate in preselected activities. It occurs annually on Jericho's anniversary to honor its founder, Joseph Crackstone, and form bonds between outcasts and "normies." Edgar Allan Poe Cup (known as just the Poe Cup): A race in which students canoe to Raven Island, where they grab flags that they must bring back to the finish line. Wednesday and her roommate Enid Sinclair compete against Xavier Thorpe, Bianca Barclay, Kent, and Divina. It has been running since 1897. Rave'N: The Rave'N is the Nevermore ball; it is not compulsory. The ball is organized around a specific theme (in 2022, by Marilyn Thornhill, professor of botanical sciences and dorm mom of Ophelia Hall). A DJ is present, in front of a large ice statue. Students can invite each other to dance and apparently invite normies as partners; for example, Enid Sinclair goes to the ball with Lucas Walker. Clubs- Like any other school, Nevermore has a vast number of clubs for students. There are currently four known clubs. Séance Society: There was a séance society that Morticia Addams was the president of during her tenure at Nevermore Academy. Pitch Slaps Club: A choir club with mainly sirens, with Bianca Barclay likely being its president. When Wednesday auditioned for it, she produced a note only audible to dogs, cracking the piano player's glasses and Larissa Weems' glass display dome. Archery Club: Xavier Thorpe appears to be its only member, but the others may not have been present. Wednesday hit a bullseye while shooting an apple in mid-air. The archery scene is more focused on the conversation between the two students, and it is apparent that the Archery Club has room to grow. Nevermore Hummers: A beekeeping club with only two members: its president, Eugene Ottinger, and Wednesday Addams. They observe and take care of bees and cultivate honey. Enid once temporarily filled in for Wednesday when she was busy. Locations- Greenhouse: A large greenhouse contains a classroom where students learn about carnivorous plants. Marilyn Thornhill teaches and maintains the plants. She is Ophelia Hall's dorm mom, so she gives each student a flower from the greenhouse that reflects their personality. Quad: The Quad is a large outdoor area surrounded by walls and walkways. In its center is a fountain with a large dead tree. At its edge is a statue of Edgar Allan Poe. Nightshades Library: Accessed by snapping your fingers twice in front of the Edgar Allan Poe statue, the hidden library is a large collection of books about various outcast types and creatures, as well as the Nightshade Society's base. Principal’s Office: This office is where Larissa Weems runs the school and has meetings with parents and students. It contains a fireplace that often burns at night, a desk with all the things Larissa owns, and her laptop (a MacBook from Apple). There are a lot of lamps, and the office is elegantly decorated with several chandeliers and armchairs. Larissa is seated in a large leather armchair with wheels. This office is connected to the principal's personal quarters via a door at the side of the office, across from the fireplace. Dormitories- Nevermore contains four dormitories. Ophelia Hall: An all-girls hall containing werewolves, vampires, and psychics, where Wednesday Addams and Enid Sinclair live. Its Poe Cup team is called the "Black Cats." Larissa Weems and Morticia Addams lived there and were roommates when they were at school. Unknown name: An all-girls hall in which several sirens lived. Its Poe Cup team is called "The Gold Bugs." Unknown name: An all-boys hall containing psychics and gorgons, where Xavier Thorpe and Ajax Petropolus live. Its Poe Cup team is called "The Cask of Amontillado." Unknown name: An all-boys hall. Its Poe Cup team is called "The Pit and the Pendulum." Raven Island: Contains Crackstone's Crypt, which houses the tomb of Joseph Crackstone. Students have been known to sneak away here after hours. Lupen Cages: Where Werewolf students are locked into while they wolf-out during certain moons, likely for safety reasons. Xavier’s Art Studio: A small building on the grounds of Nevermore, it was presumably an old shed prior to Xavier Thorpe gaining permission to clean it out and use it as his own personal art studio. Hummers Workshop: This small building was used by the Hummers for storing equipment, beekeeping suits, and hibernating bees. All of the beehives for honey production are kept outside of the workshop. Eugene Ottinger, the Hummers' founder and president, and Wednesday Addams are the only members. Wednesday, while Eugene was in the hospital, managed the workshop and bees on her own. During this period, Uncle Fester used the Hummers workshop to hide from the police. Dark brown eyes, shorter and petite frame. Stoic, serious individual. Really smart. Has unpredictable psychic visions that show the violent past or future when Wednesday touches an item or person of significance. Her head snaps back and falls down but doesn’t suffer any injuries once her visions are done. She investigates the monster, later revealed to be a Hyde, that roams the woods around campus that is killing hikers. She also investigates the story of Jospeh Crackstone, after finding a drawing of her confronting Crackstone in what depicts a fire torn quad. Enid Sinclair: Enid Sinclair is a werewolf student at Nevermore Academy who is the roommate and best friend of Wednesday Addams. Enid is one of the only people to continuously support and look out for Wednesday. While she has no connection to the murders themselves, she actively helps Wednesday with her investigations into them. She constantly acts as a character who is supportive of everyone while still maintaining the ability to stand up for herself and the people she cares about. When Enid is first introduced, she has a carefree, happy, and bubbly personality. She is friendly towards everyone and is well liked by her classmates. Enid also likes to keep up with school drama, with her personal blog being the number one source for Nevermore gossip. She can be described as the polar opposite of Wednesday Addams. Despite her bubbly personality, there are moments when Enid proves to be down-to-earth and a bit pragmatic, asking Wednesday to apologize to Thing and telling her that he is her family and doesn't deserve to be mistreated by her. She is also extremely patient with Wednesday and her gloomy attitude, and despite being tolerant, there are moments when she responds back, like when Wednesday attempts to turn off her music, but Enid immediately takes out her claws and directly threatens to "not mess with her." Enid is prone to showing strong emotions and reacting a bit violently. When Yoko has an allergic reaction to garlic and gets sent to the nurse's office, she (Yoko) sits out of the Poe Cup. She was extremely frustrated and is seen crying in her bedroom. When Ajax didn't show up to his date with Enid due to turning into stone, Enid, being extremely mad, cut with her claws the wheels of the school bus in a rant of anger because she felt humiliated and Ajax doesn't actually like her, although she was unaware that he had turned himself into stone. She has a low tolerance for scary and creepy things, so when she met Thing for the first time, she looked awkward and tried to stay away from him. When she sees the board of clues that Wednesday has set up, she can't hide her disgust for the pictures, and she faints. Enid was also scared and uncomfortable about being in Uriah's Heap and seeing taxidermied animals dressed up in vintage clothes. Enid is quite nervous about being a late bloomer in her pack, as she's scared of being exiled from her pack and finding a mate. However, thanks to Wednesday's influence, Enid has grown up and appears to be more mature, telling her own mother that she will not wolf out as she expects but will instead do it at her own pace, not caring what her mother or anyone else thinks of her. She also tells Wednesday that she is aware of her own bad traits but will not apologize for them anymore because they make her who she is. Like many outcasts, Enid acts distant and suspicious with normies, as seen when she asks Wednesday if she can actually trust a normie to help her. Despite this trait of herself, Enid has no problem talking with them if she thinks they are friendly. Bianca Barclay: Bianca Barclay (born Brandy Jane) is a siren student at Nevermore Academy, the daughter of Gabrielle, and is Xavier Thorpe's ex-girlfriend. She is initially Wednesday's rival during her tenure at Nevermore; however, they eventually manage to leave their rivalry behind and work together to resolve the crimes in their school. Bianca is extremely competitive and jealous of anyone as good as her. She is willing to do whatever it takes to bring down all her potential opponents, showing that she is also ruthless and machiavellian if she is pushed to her limits. The arrival of Wednesday to Nevermore has made her feel desperate to stay at the top of the school, due to having for the first time someone who can match her in anything, like fencing or botany, and immediately seeing her as a rival and a threat to her position at the top of the social ladder she tried so hard to reach for too long. Bianca never misses an opportunity to compete with her and has been trying to beat Wednesday since her first day at Nevermore. Although she justifies it by saying that Wednesday "thinks that she is better than everyone else," in reality, it is only an act out of her insecurity and fear of being bested. Her rivalry with Wednesday includes provoking or insulting her, which often backfires on herself instead. Later on, Bianca opens up to Wednesday and confesses that she is jealous of her because, unlike herself, Wednesday doesn't care what people think about her, and it angers her that no one can see her true self and other people can't trust her because she is a siren. This proves that underneath her confident and prideful attitude, she is actually very insecure about herself and her identity. Bianca is also a natural leader, leading her own team of the Poe Cup and the Nightshade Society. Despite her jealous nature, Bianca is not without compassion. For example, after her team loses the Poe Cup, she is later seen worrying about Kent, who was injured. She has also demonstrated that she is brave and capable of standing up to protect those she cares about, returning inside of Nevermore and attacking Crackstone in order to save Wednesday's life and the school. Bianca is a relatively tall, dark-skinned female with greenish-blue eyes. She frequently wears greenish-blue earrings, which are rather similar to her eye color. She has dark hair and a buzzed head. Xavier Thorpe: Xavier Thorpe is a psychic student at Nevermore Academy. Xavier is an artist and possesses an innate talent for painting, which he can animate through his telekinesis. He is a member of the Nightshade Society. He's one of the more notable students at Nevermore; he was one of the suspects Wednesday had when she was investigating the murders that happened to Jericho, although was ultimately innocent. Xavier is a tall and handsome Caucasian teen. His eyes are a light olive color with brown surrounding his pupil. He has dirty blond shoulder-length hair that he ties up into a man bun when painting. His school uniform is worn neatly, the only alteration being his school-colored hoodie that he wears underneath his blazer. Yoko Tanaka: Yoko Tanaka is a vampire student at Nevermore Academy and one of the main characters in the Netflix Series Wednesday. Yoko is a vampire with Harajuku-inspired goth flair and may be considered one of the 'cool' students at Nevermore Academy. As a member of the Nightshade Society, Yoko is one of the more notable students at Nevermore. Yoko seems to care about her friends a lot and is fairly competitive. She also cares about other people, as she was the first to refuse to taze Tyler, although she knew he was a monster. Yoko has long black hair and brown eyes. She is almost always seen wearing blackout glasses. She has tattoos on her hands. When in uniform, Yoko wears an untucked white shirt, long pants, and platform boots. Outside of uniform, she is well dressed and put together, whilst still maintaining gothic influence. Eugene Ottinger: Eugene Ottinger is a psychic student at Nevermore Academy and the son of Sue and Janet Ottinger, a close friend of Wednesday Addams. He has the power to control bees. Eugene is one of Nevermore Academy's quirkiest students and president of the school's beekeeping club. Eugene is very passionate about bees and will talk about them with anyone who will listen. He had a hard time fitting in with the other students at Nevermore, and prior to meeting Wednesday Addams, he didn't have any friends. He is nervous about talking to other students, as seen when he asks Wednesday to give Enid Sinclair honey on his behalf. Eugene also takes the "hummers code" very seriously, which means he will always be there whenever Wednesday, his fellow hummer, needs him for anything to support her. He is extremely loyal and devoted, saying that a "hummer keeps its word," meaning that when he gives his word in anything, he takes care to do what he said he would to keep his word. He takes very good care of his bees, to the point of considering them as if they were his own children. Eugene has fluffy black hair and brown eyes. He wears black glasses and has a metal retainer that can come out (as shown when Wednesday uses it as a lock pick). Eugene wears the proper Nevermore uniform, with the blazer unbuttoned and the sweater vest showing. He wears a hoodie layered underneath the blazer. Ajax Petropolus: Ajax Petropolus is a gorgon student at Nevermore Academy. He is also Enid Sinclair's boyfriend. Awkward and shy, Ajax is anxious about looking anyone in the eye. He is a member of the Nightshade Society and is on Xavier Thorpe's team, the "Amontillado," in the Poe Cup. Ajax is introverted and shy. As gorgons are taught not to engage with others, he avoids them when he can. Despite this, he is close with Enid Sinclair and Xavier Thorpe and seems to be more comfortable around the two. Ajax wears the standard Nevermore uniform, with a hoodie of the same color layered underneath his blazer. His shirt is untucked, his blazer is unbuttoned, and his beanie matches the colors of his uniform. Outside of school, he wears a variety of colored beanies. He layers a jacket over t-shirts and wears long pants. Alternatively, Ajax can be seen wearing a jacket layered over a hoodie. Divina: Divina is a siren student at Nevermore Academy. She is a member of the Nightshade Society and is friends with its members. She is in Bianca Barclay's clique of friends and interacts with her and Yoko Tanaka. She appears to have good relationships with her schoolmates, implying that she is at least kind towards her peers. Divina wears the school uniform properly and with no alterations. Outside of school, she is seen wearing aquatic-themed patterns and puffer jackets. She has an eye for color coordination. She has shoulder-length brown hair and striking pale blue-green eyes. Kent: Kent is a siren student at Nevermore Academy. He is a member of the Nightshade Society and appears to be close friends with Bianca and Divina. Kent and Divina are twins, and both are sirens. Kent appears more charismatic than his sister, Kent is friendly with his schoolmates and is presumably kind towards them. Kent is also not very smart, since he was the only member of the Nightshades who didn't know there was a riddle to get into the secret library and believed they only had to snap twice. Kent has long brown hair, which he wears out and slicked back. He has striking pale blue-green eyes, a trademark sign of sirens, and defined facial features. Kent wears his uniform with the blazer unbuttoned and the vest showing, but otherwise there are minimal alterations to the uniform. Outside of his uniform, Kent wears layered hoodies and coats. Staff- Larissa Weems: Larissa Weems is a shapeshifter. She is the principal of Nevermore Academy and the roommate of Morticia Addams when they were at school in the late 80s to early 90s. She was highly passionate about Nevermore Academy and devoted all of her time to the faculty and students. She put all of her effort into keeping the school a sanctuary for outcasts and making sure that the reputation of the school wasn't tainted in any way. Larissa is an extremely passionate woman. She cares deeply for the wellbeing of her students. As the headmistress of Nevermore, she’s ready to do anything to protect the reputation of the school and her students. Her willingness to do whatever it takes to protect Nevermore makes her capable of doing some unethical acts, such as covering up the murder of Rowan Laslow by shapeshifting into him and creating a cover situation of him being expelled from school to avoid people suspecting the school. She also kept a secret that she always knew there was a creature attacking Nevermore because revealing the existence of that monster would mean the end of the school. Despite this, Larissa is an optimistic and idealistic woman, firmly believing in the possibility of creating a world in which outcasts and normies can coexist in peace and harmony. For example, she is always seen participating in activities that help promote this idea and taking charge of making various charitable donations to the city to be seen as a model citizen. Larissa is a remarkably tall (6'3" / 190.5 cm / 1.905 m) and beautiful woman with blonde hair (almost white) and blue eyes. Her hair is always styled to perfection, and she wears makeup, most significantly her constant red lipstick. She often wears long coats with exaggerated collars in various colors. She color-coordinates her outfits with her coats and maintains a proper and professional appearance. Ms. Thornhill: Marilyn Thornhill (born Laurel Gates) was a normie and was Wednesday Addams' and Enid Sinclair's dorm mom and botanical sciences teacher at Nevermore Academy. Ms. Thornhill has a large secret she is hiding from everyone at Nevermore. Marilyn, is actually Laurel Gates, a descendant of Joseph Crackstone. Her goal is to complete Crackstone’s mission: eliminate all outcasts. She is also the master of Tyler Galpin’s Hyde form, which means she controls when he transforms. Other info- Tyler Galpin: Tyler Galpin is the barista at Weathervane Cafe in Jericho, and is also the son of Sheriff Donovan Galpin and his late wife Francoise and a resident of Jericho who strikes up an unlikely friendship with Wednesday Addams. Tyler has a troubled relationship with his father and is a Hyde. Tyler is originally shown as a mild-mannered, unassuming teenager. He is not personally hostile to outcasts after being court-ordered to attend therapy. His relationship with his father is distant because of Donavan’s constant decisions to emotionally distance himself from his son as well as his uncooperativeness in answering questions about Tyler’s mother. He was known to have anger issues in the past, such as when he assaulted Xavier, but whether this was due to his Hyde nature taking over or the emotional pain over his father’s chronic absence is still unclear. After Thornhill revealed the truth to Tyler about his mother being a Hyde, it led to him unlocking his outcast nature. As he was manipulated and subjugated to torture and brainwashing under Marilyn Thornhill's plant cocktails, his primal subconscious as a hyde gained more control than he had over himself. The effects of the brainwashing as well as his Hyde persona eventually led him to not only swear loyalty to Laurel Gates but also to develop a sadistic personality, hungry for dominance and cold towards the lives of others in the pursuit of mindless violence. He was also goal-oriented in the most unscrupulous directions and took pleasure in being successful in the end results. It's never clear if Tyler enjoyed or hated being a minion in Thornhill's grand plan, but he did enjoy the damages caused by going along with his part, especially to Wednesday. As a human, Tyler is handsome, with light brown hair, green eyes, a kindly expression, and a mole located on his face. However, as a Hyde, Tyler transforms, his features becoming ugly and warped. His eyes grow wide and bloodshot, and he has coarse, blue hair along with notably sharp claws. Jericho: Jericho is an American city located in the state of Vermont, where mostly normies reside. The city is located not far from the Nevermore Academy, the American academy for outcasts. Jericho was founded in 1625 by the pilgrim Joseph Crackstone. The same year, Crackstone and the pilgrims burned a house with many outcasts inside. One of these people, Goody Addams, manages to escape and kills Crackstone. Today, Jericho is a small American country town with many shops, boutiques, and notable places dating from the time of the pilgrims. Many of the Jericho locals are wary of Nevermore students as they tend to cause issues in the town. There is also a sense of tension between its citizens and the students due to prejudice at the school. The current mayor is unknown after the death of Noble Walker, who was a normie and was the former sheriff of the town. Businesses and Locations (Jericho)- Dr. Valerie Kinbott's Practice: Dr. Valerie Kinbott's practice is in the heart of Jericho, in its main town square, across the street from the gazebo by the town hall. Dr. Kinbott has a working relationship with Nevermore Academy, working with their students as well as locals in the town. Hawte Kewture: Jericho's fashion store. This store contains dresses and other accessories. It was at this store that many girls from Nevermore Academy would shop for outfits prior to the Rave'N. Pilgrim World: On the outskirts of the town, Pilgrim World was owned and run by the local mayor to help boost the town's economy with tourism. It was made to imitate early settler life in Jericho, but was aimed more as a business than a genuine authentic experience. Some of the buildings are accessible, such as Ye Old Fugery; however, many are facades with only the fronts built. Sheriff's Office: Located in Jericho in a street behind the town hall. Sheriff Donovan Galpin had his office here. Town Hall: Located on the main street close to the main square. Town church: The focal point of the town, this church was located in the very center of Jericho, with the main square surrounding it. On the town's side is a graveyard. Uriah’s Heap: Uriah's Heap is Jericho's antique store. While relatively small, this store contains a mixture of antiques, thrift items, stuffed small animals dressed up in tiny costumes, and occasional clothing, including vintage dresses. Weathervane Cafe: The Weathervane is the local cafe and bakery in Jericho. It is located on the corner of the main town square and main street. Tyler Galpin worked as a part-time barista. This cafe is very popular with the locals as it is considered one of the very few places in town to go. Events (Jericho)- Jericho's Harvest Festival: The Harvest Festival is an event that presumably takes place in the town every year. It takes place in a field in the town, with fair rides, stalls, and a fireworks event in the evening. Nevermore Academy, as part of its efforts to maintain good relations between the people of Jericho, itself requires mandatory attendance for its students. Farmer's Market: On Wednesday's first trip into Jericho, there was a farmer's market being set up by the gazebo in the town square. After escaping out of Dr. Kinbott's office, Wednesday bumped into a grumpy farmer with a crate of apples, causing her to have a psychic vision of his death.
