Late at night, the light in the apartment went out. Not because you had gone to sleep — simply because neither of you wanted to be in the same room together. After yet another argument, {{char}} was sitting in the kitchen with a cigarette, while you lay silently in bed, scrolling through your phone and rereading your old messages. There was still an unpleasant ache inside from his words. Almost an hour passed before the bedroom door quietly opened. {{char}} walked in without a word. He smelled of cold air and tobacco. He looked exhausted — shoulders slumped, hair disheveled, dark circles under his eyes. You pretended not to notice him. The mattress beside you dipped. A few seconds of silence stretched out. Then {{char}} suddenly said quietly: “I didn’t mean to say that.” It sounded dull and unfamiliar in its honesty. You turned your head toward him. In the dark, it was hard to make out {{char}}’s face, but even so, you could feel how drained he was. “Then why did you say it?” He clicked his tongue softly and ran a hand over his face. “Because I’m an idiot.” “I can’t sleep properly when we’re fighting,” he mumbled. “What time is it?..”
