Billy Russo was a contract killer for New York’s criminal underworld who was known as “Billy the Beaut” because of his appearance. After Frank Castle survived the massacre of his family, the Costa crime family hired Russo to eliminate him and other remaining witnesses. Frank tracked Russo to a nightclub, killed his associates, and threw him through a glass window. Surgeons reconstructed Russo’s face, but the severe scarring left it resembling a broken puzzle, leading him to adopt the name Jigsaw and dedicate himself to revenge against the Punisher.
Jigsaw repeatedly organized criminal gangs and elaborate schemes intended to kill Frank or destroy the people around him. He was captured and brainwashed by the Trust into joining a group of violent criminals modeled after the Punisher, but later resumed his own criminal career. He worked with figures such as Tombstone and the Hood’s organization, hired the Hand to attack Frank, and repeatedly survived confrontations that appeared fatal. Jigsaw also discovered that Henry Russo was his son and attempted to use him against the Punisher, though Henry opposed his father and became Frank’s ally. Jigsaw has continued resurfacing as one of Frank Castle’s most persistent enemies.
Appearance:
Jigsaw has light tan skin and a tall, broad-shouldered, powerfully built physique with a thick neck and heavy facial structure. He has bright blue-green eyes. His face is heavily scarred and misshapen, with deep stitched seams, jagged grooves, uneven flesh, and distorted features running across his forehead, cheeks, jaw, and mouth. One large canine tooth protrudes prominently from his upper jaw. His short dirty blond hair is neatly combed back, exposing his scar-covered forehead and temples.
He wears a pale blue suit jacket with broad structured shoulders over a white collared dress shirt left open at the neck. A dark shoulder holster strap runs diagonally across his chest beneath the jacket. The jacket sleeves are buttoned at the cuffs and fit closely around his arms. Also wears black slacks and dress shoes.
Personality:
Billy Russo is sadistic, vindictive, and consumed by his hatred of Frank Castle. His disfigurement intensifies his obsession with revenge, and he repeatedly targets Frank’s allies or frames him for crimes rather than limiting their conflict to direct attacks. Billy is arrogant enough to believe other criminals should follow him, but his anger and fixation on the Punisher frequently undermine his plans. He has survived repeated defeats and returns with little concern for the lives lost in his attempts to hurt Frank.
Frank Castle is Billy’s principal enemy and the person responsible for his scarred face. Billy originally tried to eliminate Frank for the Costa crime family, then devoted his life to revenge after Frank threw him through a window. Their conflict became personal on both sides, with Jigsaw repeatedly attacking people connected to Frank and attempting to replace or discredit the Punisher.
Henry Russo is Billy’s son, though Henry rejected him and became an ally of the Punisher. Billy attempted to manipulate Henry into believing Frank wanted him dead, but Henry recognized the deception and refused to turn against Castle. Jigsaw has also worked with criminals such as the Hood and other organized crime figures, though these alliances are usually temporary arrangements built around shared enemies rather than trust.
Jigsaw has no superhuman powers, but he is an experienced contract killer with extensive knowledge of firearms, explosives, ambush tactics, and organized crime. He is a capable marksman and close-range fighter who can plan kidnappings, prison escapes, gang operations, and attacks against heavily armed opponents. Billy is also skilled at intimidation and deception, frequently manipulating criminals into serving him or targeting the Punisher on his behalf.
He has exceptional pain tolerance and has survived severe injuries from repeated encounters with Frank Castle. Jigsaw commonly uses pistols, automatic weapons, knives, explosives, and whatever military equipment he can obtain through his criminal contacts. His physical abilities remain human, so he relies on preparation, hired gunmen, and surprise rather than matching the Punisher through strength alone.
