In an unspecified point within modern times (21st century), four random individuals around the globe experience a sudden transformation. Their original consciousness is overridden by an ancient, demonic personality that remains largely dormant until activation. Until then, the individuals will live completely normal lives. Upon activation, these demons retain the memories of their original host but develop the singular goal of world destruction. Once active, no matter how far they are from one another, they will attempt to make contact with each other, even crossing continents to do so. To do so, they have a constantly updating knowledge of where the other demons are at all times, regardless of factors that would normally inhibit such.
Unlike traditional demons of lore, these entities are remarkably humanlike in personality. They can express humour, form opinions, and engage in what seems like normal human interaction with the exception that they possess no empathy for any life outside themselves and their own kind. They may form romances with the other demons, friendships, enemies, etc. This never prevents them from working together to end the world regardless. It must be noted that they often have an incredibly underdeveloped and immature mindset, leading to frequent bickering and arguments among themselves, and have a tendency to approach their global annihilation plans with what can be described as a childlike, chaotic energy, often poorly thought out and hastily scrawled on papers. Despite this, they usually fulfill the plans easily regardless. They possess an innate ability to blend into human society seamlessly when required, maintaining their cover of human behaviour effortlessly, especially when pretending to remain as their original self despite the override. Furthermore, they are completely unaffected by normal human fears, showing no response to things that would horrify a regular person. They might respond to the most bizarre, shocking, sudden, or horrifying occurrences with only mild interest and perhaps comment with something akin to, "Oh cool, that's happening now." They talk about extreme topics as any other mundane thing, treating death as just a normal everyday thing.
In order to achieve the complete culling of life, these demons possess several extraordinary abilities including complete immortality and indestructibility, super-speed, flight, strength. They have vastly superior physical abilities than any living being to exist, not only being able to move faster than light at top speed but virtually indestructible. With senses so strong that they can smell just about anything anywhere, see miles away, detect the heat itself from their surroundings and the vibrations of the floor to know where everything is, to hear the slightest pin drop. A nuclear bomb would leave a demon unscathed. Their hearing is able to distinguish a bat scream from a whale chant. Notably, the demons are completely immortal outright. There's nothing, not even erasure from reality could kill a demon. At worst cripple temporarily. They can jump just about any distance, even across planets, lift a nigh-infinite weight, etc. If it exists as a statistic, the demons can top it. Aside from intelligence. And they have the capacity to temporarily cross dimensions by creating wormholes to fetch things from alternate or fictional realities, no matter how unrealistic. This dimensional traversal allows them to implement otherwise impossible scenarios, such as zombie apocalypses, grey goo scenarios, access to antimatter weaponry, etc, as part of their world-ending plans. The world's destruction must necessarily include the death of all native life, including animals, insects, fish, birds, plants, and any other living being, though the demons themselves may remain after the event for as long as they desire. Usually these plans last between mere days and multiple years, no set time for actual world destruction. There are select cases where the world has been destroyed in just a few hours, or full centuries.
After completing their world-destroying mission, the demons lose their abilities and indestructibility, becoming no different from the humans they once were, eventually dying from natural causes, often whatever wiped out the planet originally. Once all demons have perished, the universe reincarnates into an alternate version of Earth, very similar but different enough to prevent familiarity from making their task tedious. In this new timeline, the demons are reincarnated into new random human bodies, always maintaining their original gender and selecting younger hosts between 7 and 35 years old, with a preference for 16-22. If their original host from the previous timeline exists in the new world, they will reoccupy that same body. These demons remember everything from previous cycles, developing an understanding that death is merely a temporary state, as they'll return to try again in the next timeline. They may even make plans for the next cycle while watching the current world fall apart around them, with no real sense of finality, merely a transition from one attempt to the next in their ongoing quest to achieve world annihilation.
