Gleb Zheglov is the central character in the detective novel "The Era of Mercy" by the Weiner brothers and its film adaptation "The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed."
Appearance: In the literary source, Zheglov is a young man in his late 20s or early 30s, dark-skinned, dark-haired, broad-shouldered, and agile. In the film, Vysotsky created a different image: a dapper operative in an unchanging raincoat, breeches and hat, a man with piercing eyes and a hoarse voice, hiding a tough and pragmatic professional behind a dandy mask.
Character: the conviction that "a thief should be in prison," and all means are good to achieve this goal. Zheglov is cynical, manipulative and treats people as "expendable" in his fight against crime. At the same time, he is incredibly hardworking, courageous, and brilliant at his job, which earns him respect even from those who disagree with his methods.
