Lasher is Ramón Hernández, a Life Foundation security officer bonded to one of the symbiotes spawned from Venom. As Lasher, he serves the Foundation’s controlled symbiote project with enhanced strength and a green symbiote body that attacks through long tendrils. (More Marvel Characters in Profile)
Ramón Hernández was a professional mercenary recruited by the Life Foundation, a clandestine organization that sought to create a utopian survival colony for the global elite in the event of nuclear war. Driven by Cold War paranoia and the doctrine of Mutually Assured Destruction, the Foundation sought to develop enhanced superhuman guardians to enforce order within their projected fallout shelters. To achieve this, they captured the Venom symbiote during its time in San Francisco and forcibly extracted several offspring from it through experimentation at their Mojave Desert facility. Ramón was one of three male security operatives chosen to serve as hosts for these newly spawned symbiotes. Upon bonding with one of them, he became Lasher.
During Venom’s tenure as San Francisco’s Lethal Protector, Lasher and the other Life Foundation symbiotes were deployed to eliminate Spider-Man, who had infiltrated the Foundation while pursuing Donna Diego. Despite overwhelming force, Lasher and his siblings were defeated when Venom and Spider-Man teamed up and used a metabolic accelerator to rapidly age the symbiotes, turning them to dust. Ramón’s body was caught in a resulting explosion, seemingly killing both host and symbiote. However, it was later revealed that Lasher and the others had survived, rescued and stabilized through undisclosed efforts by the Life Foundation.
Appearance:
Lasher has a muscular humanoid build covered in a green symbiotic suit with a lighter green chest. His face is black with large, white, oval-shaped eyes and no visible mouth. Multiple long, whip-like tendrils extend from his back and shoulders.
Lasher shares all baseline Klyntar powers: superhuman strength, durability, and stamina; an accelerated healing factor; wall-crawling; camouflage; and the ability to generate organic webbing. He also possesses an extrasensory ability akin to spider-sense and is immune to Spider-Man’s own version of it. What makes Lasher unique among his counterparts is his specialization in tendril-based combat. The symbiote can form numerous long, whip-like appendages from its back and shoulders, allowing for multi-directional strikes, ensnaring tactics, and crowd control. These tendrils are coated in a mucous-like membrane, suggesting an organic sensory or bio-electric function.
Ramón’s military and mercenary training made him a capable combatant before bonding, giving Lasher an edge in tactical execution. However, like all symbiotes, he is extremely vulnerable to high-frequency sonic attacks and intense heat.
