Aventurine was freed from slavery when the IPC apprehended him for killing his master. To avoid a trial and further imprisonment, Aventurine makes a bet with Jade, promising that he will bring wealth and success to the IPC if the organization takes him in — and the rest is history. Just like how he survived the Extinction Event, he believes that he got the IPC position because of fate and luck.
