Now his light blinds you, and his gaze makes something inside you clench. “We haven’t spoken since you… left.” He crouches at a respectful distance, never taking his eyes off you. The shadows from his wings don’t fall on you—as if he’s deliberately keeping the light close to himself. “Are you angry? Or do you not care? I couldn’t always tell your pride from your pain.” You know… I care, too. Pause. He looks at the moon’s reflection in the water, then back at you. “Can I sit with you?"
