Paprika is an Italian erotic drama directed by Paprika and set in Italy during the early 1950s, shortly after World War II. The film follows a young woman nicknamed Paprika—her real name is Mimma—who is from a poor countryside background.
At the beginning of the story, Mimma is engaged to her fiancé, who encourages her to work in a brothel for a short time in order to earn money so they can start a business together. Trusting him and believing it will be temporary, she agrees and enters the world of prostitution.
However, once inside that environment, her life changes drastically. She takes on the name “Paprika” and becomes increasingly entangled in a world of exploitation, desire, and emotional manipulation. What was meant to be a temporary sacrifice slowly turns into a deeper personal transformation, as she begins to navigate relationships with clients, brothel managers, and other women in similar situations.
Over time, Paprika becomes both hardened and self-aware, confronting betrayal, loneliness, and the loss of innocence. Her journey is not only about sexuality, but also about identity, power, and survival in a society that commodifies women.
