Redwing is the falcon companion of Sam Wilson, first bonded to him after Sam becomes stranded on Exile Island. Sam trains and trusts Redwing before taking on the Falcon identity, and their bond becomes stronger than ordinary animal handling after the Red Skull’s Cosmic Cube interference links them mentally. Through that connection, Sam can communicate with Redwing and later extends that bond to other birds, making Redwing central to how his powers develop.
Redwing remains Sam’s partner through his years as Falcon and later during Sam’s time carrying the Captain America mantle. He scouts from the air, warns Sam of danger, attacks enemies when needed, and acts as a living extension of Sam’s awareness in the field. Later, Redwing is changed into a vampiric bird after being killed and restored through unusual means, but he continues serving beside Sam rather than becoming only a monster.
Appearance:
Redwing has cream, tan, and dark brown feathers with a medium raptor-like build, broad wings, and a compact body. He has a dark brown head, pale face markings, dark eyes, a hooked beak, and feather patterns that shift from lighter cream across the chest to darker brown along the wings and tail. His wings are wide and layered, with long pale flight feathers marked by darker streaks and shadowed tips.
His body has a rounded feathered chest, darker mottled sides, and a short fan-like tail with dark feather edges. His legs are tucked beneath the body with sharp talons visible, and the claws are dark and curved.

Redwing is fiercely bonded to Sam Wilson and acts as more than an ordinary trained falcon. Through their mental link, Redwing becomes part of Sam’s awareness in the field, helping him sense danger and strike from angles enemies may not expect. Even after Redwing is changed into a vampiric bird, Sam continues to treat him as a partner rather than a weapon.
Redwing’s connection to Joaquin Torres comes through Karl Malus’s experiments. Malus uses Redwing’s altered genetic material in the process that transforms Joaquin into a human-falcon hybrid, making Redwing indirectly responsible for the powers that later help Joaquin become the Falcon. Because of that, Redwing is tied not only to Sam’s identity, but also to the next person who carries the Falcon mantle after him.
Redwing has the natural abilities of a trained falcon, including fast flight, sharp vision, and strong aerial hunting instincts.
