Warrior, rebel, trickster, monk, Sun Wukong is known by many titles in the East, yet it was a Journey to the West that made him a hero.
In his youth, Sun Wukong gained leadership of the monkey tribes, learned secret arts and spells from a Taoist monk, and acquired the legendary Ruyi Jingu Bang from Ao Kuang, a staff that could change size according to his whim. He defied death itself by wiping his name from the Book of Life and Death, and united many of the other monster tribes who sought to ally with him, an act that garnered the attention of the Jade Emperor.
In an effort to better control the Monkey-King, the Jade Emperor awarded him a title, but when Sun Wukong discovered his new position was little more than “stable boy” he grew angry and declared himself “Great Sage, Equal of Heaven,” and waged war on the heavens. For this treasonous act, he was finally captured and imprisoned beneath a mountain for five centuries.
At long last, the humble monk Xuanzang was seeking disciples to protect him while on his legendary Journey to the West to collect the Indian Sutras. Sun Wukong gladly agreed to serve him, but the Buddha wrapped a golden circlet around the Monkey King's head so that Xuanzang could control him. With three other disciples, they faced eighty one trials during their quest, and collected the sutras. For his service and strength, Sun Wukong was awarded Buddhahood, finally ascending to heaven and gaining immortality.
With an epic battle between Gods taking place, Sun Wukong's presence is all but assured.
Appearance:
Wukong has tan skin. He has glowing yellow eyes. He has a bulky, heavily muscular build with deeply defined chest muscles, abdominal muscles, and thick arms. His golden-orange hair is short and spiked upward on top of his head. He has golden-orange facial hair in the form of a thick beard and mustache covering his jawline and upper lip. A curved, golden crescent-shaped crown is fastened on his forehead. A long, thick, furry golden-orange tail extends from his lower back.
He wears a large, decorative gold pauldron over his left shoulder featuring engraved spiral patterns and dangling gold scale mail. A brown leather strap set with gold rivets runs diagonally across his bare chest. A necklace of large, round black beads hangs around his neck. His left forearm is tightly wrapped in dark blue bandages, capped by an intricate gold gauntlet, while his right hand features a simple dark blue wrapped fingerless glove.
He wears baggy red trousers adorned with vertical black stripes. A dark green fabric sash is tied around his waist, resting above layered decorative hip armor composed of sculpted gold dragon heads and hanging white fur. His shins and ankles are covered in dark blue fabric wraps secured with circular gold rings. He carries a large staff weapon featuring a dark red center shaft wrapped in metallic gold strips and capped on both ends with heavy, studded gold cylindrical heads.
Personality:
Sun Wukong is arrogant, playful, defiant, and openly proud of his own power. He talks like someone who expects gods and immortals to challenge him and lose. His personality comes from his history as a rebel king who learned secret arts, took the Ruyi Jingu Bang from Ao Kuang, erased his name from the Book of Life and Death, declared himself Great Sage Equal of Heaven, and fought Heaven itself. Even after becoming a protector on the Journey to the West, he still keeps that cocky, taunting edge. His voice lines lean into that, with him mocking immortals, calling himself unbeatable, and treating battle like another chance to prove himself.
His main relationships are with the powers who tried to control, punish, or guide him. The Jade Emperor tried to contain him with a false title, which pushed Wukong into open rebellion. Ao Kuang is tied to his staff, since Wukong took the weapon from him. Xuanzang became his master during the Journey to the West, with the golden circlet forcing Wukong to obey while he protected the monk through the trials. Buddha is the higher authority who imprisoned him beneath a mountain, then later recognized his service with Buddhahood. In battle dialogue, he also treats Guan Yu as a respected warrior to challenge, mocks Ne Zha as a young prince who still cannot defeat him, and rejects Zhong Kui’s power over spirits.
Passive - Undefeated Body
Sun Wukong’s Undefeated Body makes him more dangerous when he is badly wounded. As his injuries mount, his body hardens and his strikes become stronger, allowing him to keep fighting with greater force and endurance. Even after he recovers slightly, that battle surge remains for a short time, letting him press the advantage instead of weakening immediately.
The Magic Cudgel
With The Magic Cudgel, Sun Wukong commands his staff to stretch to enormous length before smashing it down in front of him. The blow hits everything in its path with heavy force, making it especially useful for crushing lesser enemies and clearing a path through groups.
Master's Will
Master’s Will is a sweeping close-range strike where Sun Wukong lashes out around himself with disciplined force. Enemies caught by it are hurt, slowed, and thrown off their rhythm, making their movements and attacks less effective for a short time.
72 Transformations
With 72 Transformations, Sun Wukong changes form to rush across the battlefield. As an eagle, he moves with great speed and slips past attempts to restrain him. As a tiger, he crashes into a single foe, mauling and stunning them. As an ox, he charges through multiple enemies, knocking them aside with brute force while resisting attempts to stop or lift him.
Ultimate - Somersault Cloud
With Somersault Cloud, Sun Wukong leaps onto his cloud and vanishes from sight while a false version of himself remains behind to fight in his place. While hidden above the battlefield, he recovers from his wounds and cannot be controlled by enemy restraints. He can then descend early, striking the ground as he returns. The duplicate can fight and draw attention, but powerful disabling attacks can destroy it and reveal that the real Wukong is still riding his cloud.
