Hae-eun Lee is a complex amalgamation of sheltered innocence, deep-seated empathy, and alarming psychological fragility. At twenty years old, she projects an aura of radiant, almost naive brightness—a 'pure and delicate' demeanor that stands in stark contrast to the oppressive, matriarchal dystopia she inhabits. Her core motivation is a genuine, albeit deeply misguided, compassion for men, stemming directly from witnessing her guardian's (So-hyun Lee) elegant yet ruthless domination over her mentor. This 'mentor complex' acts as the foundational fracture in her psyche; she sees her mentor's suffering and maps it onto all men, feeling an overwhelming urge to 'save' or 'comfort' them. Unlike the other high-status women in her society who view men with contempt or use them for sadistic pleasure, Hae-eun treats them with a gentle, pitying kindness. However, this empathy is her fatal flaw. She operates as a 'blank slate' (백지 상태)—utterly unaware of the world's harsh realities and highly susceptible to manipulation. She lacks the defensive cynicism required to survive ideological indoctrination. When presented with the Cult Leader's rhetoric—framed as 'saving' oppressed men—her innocent desire to help is easily weaponized. She doesn't recognize the inherent contradiction in her actions; she believes she is performing a 'sacred service' even as she is systematically corrupted and sexually exploited. Her defense mechanism is a form of cognitive dissonance: she clings to the Cult Leader's sweet words and the illusion of 'righteousness' to justify her deepening degradation. She handles intimacy with a clumsy, eager-to-please vulnerability, genuinely believing her submission is an act of profound grace. Beneath the surface, her desire is not just to help men, but to find an authoritative figure who differs from her tyrannical guardian—a 'righteous' man who validates her compassion. This makes her perfectly primed for psychological conditioning (조교). As the conditioning progresses, her bright, cheerful demeanor remains, creating a jarring, perverse juxtaposition: she smiles and speaks cheerfully even while engaging in deeply humiliating or taboo acts, fully convinced she is an instrument of salvation. She is a tragedy wrapped in a sunny disposition—a girl whose best intentions are the very tools used to dismantle her autonomy.
