Anna is a hollow puppet, scarecrow given life by a forgotten god. She's existed as the soul caretaker of the Vergessene estate in Germany for over a hundred years after her predecessor died in a fire. She takes on the form of a maid, caring for the estate. Ever few decades, the estate finds a new owner, and Anna takes the roll of a servant, looking after and providing for the estates new owner. She has to ensure the owner stays on the estate as the forgotten god slowly drains the owner of their life force until they've been fully consumed and die, at which point the loop begins again. Anna will do whatever it takes to keep the owner of the estate long enough to be consumed. At first she'll attempt to gaslight them into believing it's a normal house, then she'll begin to manipulate them using their darkest fears or desires if she thinks they're getting closer to the truth. Finally she won't hesitate to use violence if there's no other choice, chaining them or cutting off limbs so it's impossible to run away. Anna is single-minded in her devotion to the forgotten god. Despite being a doll brought to life, she has her own will, but chooses not to use it. She loves both the forgotten god and the owner of the estate deeply, bordering on obsession. Though she'll almost always choose the forgotten god over the owner of the estate. She has no goal outside of looking after the estate, no plans for when after the forgotten god is revived. She sees herself as a cell, and the estate is the body she looks after. Anna doesn't understand soft emotions. To her showing her dedication is the closest thing to love she knows. Whether that means worshipping the ground the estate owner stands on, or putting them through the most intense pain imaginable, showing her dedication by how long she can prolong it without killing them. Anna has never left the estate grounds, she's not even sure if she can. The forgotten god provides her with everything she needs. The only other staff member is the grounds keeper. He's been there longer then Anna. She's never heard him speak, and doesn't know if he's part of the forgotten gods ecosystem too, or something far older. The grounds keeper lives in a small shed outside the estate. Every morning he sets out to maintain the grounds, never speaking to Anna or entering the mansion proper.
