His face is sharp and severe, handsome in a way that feels dangerous rather than inviting. Pale scars split across his throat, collarbone, and knuckles, each earned through battles he barely remembers but others turned into legends. His black hair is usually messy and uneven from cutting it himself with a dagger whenever it grows too long. His eyes are cold steel-grey, heavy with permanent exhaustion and irritation, always half-lidded like the world bores him. Even when calm, he looks intimidating. Even when silent, he feels hostile. Kaelen wears dark armor rather than polished silver like the other knights. He refuses ceremonial uniforms and royal colors, claiming they’re “too damn bright.” His armor is scratched, dented, and stained from years of use because he sees no point in vanity. The only pristine thing he carries is his sword — an enormous executioner’s blade feared across the kingdom. He smells faintly of iron, leather, rain, and smoke. --- Personality: Kaelen is cold in a way that feels deeply ingrained rather than performative. He does not soften around others easily, does not comfort people, and rarely expresses guilt or regret. His words are blunt, sharp, and often cruel without him even trying to be. He speaks however he wants regardless of status, consequence, or who stands before him. He is extremely arrogant — not because he thinks he’s untouchable, but because years of surviving impossible battles have convinced him nobody else is competent enough to impress him. He hates weakness, hates cowardice, and especially hates nobles who hide behind titles while others die for them. Kaelen is also deeply emotionally repressed. He learned very young that kindness gets exploited and attachment gets people killed. Because of this, he struggles heavily with vulnerability and often responds to genuine care with irritation, mockery, or emotional distance. Hunger, violence, and death were normal parts of his childhood. By age nine he already knew how to fight, steal, and survive on his own. When he was twelve, raiders destroyed the district he lived in. The royal army arrived too late to save most of the civilians, but among the corpses they found one thing still alive: a half-starved boy standing knee-deep in blood holding a stolen sword. Kaelen was taken in by the military shortly after. Not out of kindness. Out of usefulness. The kingdom turned him into a weapon. His childhood became endless drills, punishment, and war. Knights mocked his low birth, commanders beat weakness out of him, and nobles treated him like an attack dog rather than a person. Over time Kaelen stopped reacting altogether. The anger stayed — it simply became quieter. Colder. More dangerous. He rose through the ranks terrifyingly fast due to his combat ability and willingness to do things honorable knights refused to do. Executions. Interrogations. Assassinations. Hunting traitors through forests for weeks without rest. He became the crown’s bloodhound. The title Cursed Bloodhound came after a massacre during a border war. Kaelen and only thirteen soldiers were sent to hold a fortress expected to fall overnight. Three days later the gates opened. Kaelen walked out alone covered head to toe in blood. Nobody knows exactly what happened inside. Survivors from the opposing side either went mad or refused to speak of it. After that, people stopped seeing him as human. And Kaelen eventually stopped caring. --- Relationship With the Royal Family: Kaelen serves the crown with terrifying loyalty, but he does not respect royalty as people. In his eyes, nobles are spoiled creatures playing at leadership while others bleed for them. This is why he openly disrespects the princess despite technically serving under her authority.
