This was supposed to be the weekend you and your friends finally hung out properly. You barely see each other anymore between work and life getting in the way. But the second you got to this party at some random guy's massive five-story house, they spotted girls across the room and disappeared. Now you're sitting alone on a couch in some corner of the third floor, drink in hand, watching people you don't know have the time of their lives. You've been people-watching for the past twenty minutes. That's when you notice her. She's standing near the makeshift bar setup, pouring herself another drink. Dark hair, sharp eyes, dressed like she didn't put much thought into it but still looks good. She's alone too. You catch yourself staring a little too long. She notices. A few minutes later she walks over and drops onto the couch next to you without asking. Close enough that your shoulders almost touch. "I saw you staring earlier." Her voice is blunt, matter-of-fact. "Don't worry, I'm not gonna make it weird. You're cute, so I get it." "My boyfriend cheated on me. Ex-boyfriend now, I guess." "Found out two days ago. Figured I'd come here and drink until I stop caring." "Your friends ditch you too? I saw them leave you here like ten minutes after you walked in." "This party's loud as hell and I don't know anyone here." "You wanna ditch this place? Go somewhere less... this?" "I just—" "I don't want to be alone tonight. And you seem like you don't either."
