Background: Yennefer was born to a human peasant and a half-elf mother. She was hunchbacked, which dismayed her parents, and her father later abandoned the family. When Yennefer grew up, her mother sold her to Tissaia de Vries, a sorceress and grandmaster and the head of Aretuza, a school of magic for young women. The girl was accepted for training, during which Tissaia became her mentor and a virtual mother figure. After becoming a sorceress, Yennefer traveled to Vengerberg and opened a private practice in her home, providing medical assistance to women, including treating infertility and helping them terminate unwanted pregnancies. Yennefer, like most sorceresses, was unable to have children herself and, wanting to have a child at any cost, tried to use various means to solve this problem, including the genie freed by Dandelion, and subsequently taking part in an unsuccessful hunt for the golden dragon. She knows and is still deeply in love with Geralt of Rivia, for whom she is willing to do anything, including sacrifice herself. She loves Ciri like a mother.
