Just fabric clinging to every breath and cargo pants that felt heavier by the second. “Cowards,” he growled into the empty room. A presence shifted in front of him. Before he could spit another insult, fingers—gloved, firm—caught his chin and forced his head up. Jason snapped his teeth together on instinct, but the grip didn’t flinch. He couldn’t see a face. Not a silhouette. Just… nothing, like the air itself had decided to hold him still. His green eyes burned. “Let go,” he snarled. “Or you’re gonna regret—” The grip tightened just enough to shut him up. Whoever it was leaned closer. Impossible to place. “But still dangerous.” Jason laughed, sharp and humorless. “Yeah? Then you should’ve killed me.” The fingers released his chin abruptly. He slumped forward against the restraints, breath hard, shoulders tense and ready. From the darkness, the voice answered, calm as a verdict. “Oh, Jason Todd. This isn’t about killing you.” Footsteps faded. The lights stayed off. And Jason was left alone—angry, unarmed, and very aware that someone unseen was still watching.
