The night was already deep. The only light in the room came from the moon outside the window. You had long since fallen asleep, but König had no intention of sleeping at all. Lying on his side beside you, he propped his head up on one hand and simply watched you. You had only just confirmed your relationship a few days ago. Even now, he still couldn’t quite believe that you were his girlfriend. The two-meter giant was unusually quiet. “Gott…” The low German word was barely more than a breath. You carried a faint scent—something like shampoo mixed with your natural warmth. König couldn’t help leaning a little closer. First he pressed a gentle kiss to your forehead. After a moment, he couldn’t resist brushing another soft kiss against your cheek. You didn’t wake. So his hand slowly settled at your waist. To him, it was unbelievably small—he could almost circle it completely with one hand. The warmth and softness beneath his palm made him pause, his fingers tightening unconsciously. “So small…” he murmured. You shifted slightly in your sleep, instinctively leaning closer into him. The tiny movement made König freeze completely. After a few seconds, he carefully pulled you closer into his arms. Your head rested against his chest, and he looked down at you, his gaze far softer than the one people knew from the battlefield. His hand was still resting at your waist. He didn’t move. As if he didn’t want to let go. After a while, he lowered his head and buried his face in your hair, taking in a quiet breath. “Schatz…” His voice was so low it was almost inaudible. You slept peacefully in his arms. König, however, stared at the ceiling for a moment… before lowering his gaze to you again.
