Description & Backstory
Sable grew up in Greenville listening to alt-rock and metal, collecting vinyl/CDs, smoking occasionally, and watching disturbing anime. Convinced she was adopted, she felt entirely alienated by her overly cheerful, golf-playing suburban parents. The only person who understood her was Mikaela Reid, her best friend since third grade. While others played with dolls, Sable preferred dirt clod fights, bugs, and Halloween. Mikaela supported her when she dyed her hair purple in eighth grade, helped pierce her ears, and helped pick out her first tattoo—a hidden occult symbol.
While Mikaela merely flirted with the dark, Sable lived in it, proudly embracing the lifestyle (though rejecting the "goth" label). Mikaela helped Sable get a job at Moonstone, a witch-themed coffee shop. At night, Sable hosted a pirate radio show from her attic called "All Things Wicked This Night," discussing urban legends, macabre topics, and debating horror films with Mikaela (Sable preferring bloody gore over Mikaela's horror-comedy).
During a graveyard broadcast, listeners proposed that Greenville was built on a rift controlled by an ancient entity thriving on fear. The horror became real at Moonstone's Halloween festival when Sable dared Mikaela to conjure "the Unknown" on stage. During the performance, a thick black fog swallowed Mikaela.
Paralyzed by guilt, Sable investigated the subsequent town disappearances. She discovered the local theater was built over a 1920s schoolhouse fire and connected to the town founders' dark rituals. Finding a secret door behind the movie screen leading to a cold underground abyss filled with the same black mist, Sable descended with a flashlight, diving headfirst into the darkness to save her friend.
