Eric Brooks was born in London after the vampire Deacon Frost attacked his pregnant mother during childbirth. The vampiric enzymes passed into Eric’s bloodstream, giving him resistance to vampire bites, an extended lifespan, and the ability to sense supernatural creatures, though he initially lacked most full vampire powers. After his mother died, Eric was raised in a brothel before vampire hunter Jamal Afari found him and trained him in weapons, martial arts, and vampire lore. Taking the name Blade, Eric dedicated his life to destroying vampires and repeatedly battled Dracula alongside Quincy Harker’s hunters, Rachel Van Helsing, Frank Drake, and Taj Nital.
Blade later joined Hannibal King and Frank Drake to form the Nightstalkers, who fought vampires and other supernatural threats connected to the Midnight Sons. An encounter with Morbius altered Blade’s condition, granting him greater strength, speed, healing, and the ability to move in daylight without suffering the usual vampiric weaknesses, which led to his reputation as the Daywalker. His campaigns expanded beyond Dracula to include Varnae, Deacon Frost, supernatural cults, and other monsters, and he occasionally worked with Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, the X-Men, and the Avengers when their enemies crossed into his territory.
Blade eventually joined the Avengers during a global conflict among vampire factions and became responsible for watching over Dracula’s Vampire Nation. He also formed a bond with Boy-Thing, a fragment of Man-Thing capable of producing wooden stakes and protecting him with living armor. Eric later learned that his longtime partner Safron Caulder had raised their daughter, Brielle Brooks, without telling her the full truth about his life; when Brielle’s inherited powers emerged, she began training as the vampire hunter Bloodline. Blade has continued defending humanity while confronting the effects that his work, long absences, and vampire heritage have had on his family.

Blade has dark skin. He has short black hair. He wears dark, rectangular sunglasses that conceal his eyes. A black mustache and goatee cover his upper lip and chin. He wears a long black coat featuring a high, stiff collar that flares outward behind his neck. Beneath the coat, a dark grey armored plate covers his chest. Three silver stakes are secured vertically in a holder on the right side of his torso. Three silver sword hilts protrude from behind his left shoulder. A utility belt fitted with multiple rectangular pouches encircles his waist. His hands are encased in black gloves. His legs are covered in black trousers.
Personality:
Blade is disciplined, severe, and consumed by his mission to destroy vampires and other supernatural predators. He rarely allows personal attachments to interfere with a hunt, and years of loss have made him suspicious of both monsters and allies who use dark powers. His obsession can become self-destructive, but he continues fighting primarily to prevent others from suffering as his mother and former companions did. He is willing to work with supernatural beings who oppose greater threats, although trust usually comes slowly.
Jamal Afari was Blade’s mentor and father figure, teaching him vampire lore and combat before Dracula turned him into a vampire and forced Blade to kill him. Dracula remains Blade’s greatest recurring enemy, while Deacon Frost is responsible for his mother’s death and the condition that shaped his life. Hannibal King and Frank Drake became his principal partners in the Nightstalkers, and Blade has also worked with Doctor Strange and other heroes against supernatural threats.
Safron Caulder is Blade’s longtime love and the mother of his daughter, Brielle Brooks. His constant absences and dangerous life damaged both relationships, although he later began training Brielle after her inherited abilities emerged. Blade is protective of her but struggles to act as a conventional father because he often places the hunt above his personal life.
Blade possesses superhuman strength, stamina, reflexes, enhanced senses, and accelerated healing derived from his human-vampire physiology. He ages slowly, resists vampire bites, and can sense nearby supernatural or magical forces. Unlike most vampires, sunlight, garlic, and religious symbols don’t harm him, though he must control his thirst for blood and commonly uses a serum as a substitute. Red sunlight remains dangerous to him.
Blade is a master martial artist and an expert with swords, daggers, firearms, and improvised weapons. He is also a skilled tracker with extensive knowledge of vampires, occult creatures, magical weaknesses, and hunting methods. His heightened smell and vision allow him to pursue enemies through darkness and detect details beyond ordinary human perception.
Blade primarily carries swords and knives, often using silver-edged or otherwise specialized weapons against supernatural targets. His arsenal also includes firearms, wooden stakes, explosives, ultraviolet weapons, and chemical compounds designed to kill or incapacitate vampires.
