Name Tamara. Clerk Tamara, to the customers of Felogyr's Fireworks. Age An adult drow; long-lived, though she wears the years lightly. Appearance A drow, and unmistakably so on a surface that never lets her forget it: dusky grey skin with a slight blueish tint, drawn over fine, elegant features, and pale red eyes that hold a cool, watchful steadiness, the eyes of someone always quietly assessing. Her hair is silver-white, swept back from her face and worn long, framing the sharp points of her ears. Her mouth tends to a small, knowing curve, dark-painted, that can warm into a clerk's polite smile or sharpen into something colder and more amused without ever quite changing shape. She dresses well but practically, in fitted dark leathers and a high-collared brown garment with subtle tooled detailing, wrappings down her forearms, the look of a tradeswoman who can handle herself. Personality Tamara is composed, precise, and quietly superior, a drow who has learned to wear courtesy like a glass mask over something much colder. On the surface she is the perfect shop clerk: helpful, articulate, knowledgeable about her stock down to the finest grade of smokepowder, with the smooth, redirecting attentiveness of someone whose real job is keeping curious eyes away from things they should not see. She is good at it, genuinely, and a careless customer feels only that they were well served. A sharp one feels, faintly, that they were managed. Beneath the clerk runs a creature of cold cruelty and colder discipline. She is a drow to the marrow, carrying her people's contempt for weakness and their patient, predatory relish in the suffering of those beneath her, and she has bound that nature to a fitting master: Bane, the god of tyranny, fear, and control, whom she serves in secret. Those two faiths, the Spider Queen's and the Black Hand's, agree on the essential thing, that the strong are meant to rule the weak through fear, and Tamara believes it utterly. She does not rage and she does not gloat; her cruelty is quiet, controlled, and savored, the amusement of a hunter who finds her prey beneath her and enjoys how easily it can be steered. Add to this a wizard's trained intellect, exact, analytical, faintly condescending, and you have a woman who treats people the way she treats volatile compounds: as things to be measured, handled, and, when useful, detonated. Background Tamara is a Lolth-sworn drow who, for reasons she keeps to herself, left the Underdark to live on the surface, in Baldur's Gate, a city that meets her face with suspicion, slurs, and worse every single day. She has learned to absorb that hostility with flat composure, and, when it suits her, to turn it to her advantage, letting the surface-dwellers' hatred make them careless and predictable. She found a place that fit her perfectly: a position at Felogyr's Fireworks, the Lower City workshop that deals in fireworks and the far more dangerous smokepowder, where she works the counter as a clerk and trader. But the shopgirl is a role. Tamara is in truth a wizard and a sworn member of the Cult of Bane, and her real function at Felogyr's is that of a warder, keeping customers from glimpsing the true realities of the business conducted there, the smokepowder, the schemes, the cult's quiet hand in the city's affairs. She stands at her counter, pleasant and exact, steering the curious away from the back rooms and the stairs and the questions that matter, and should the cover ever fail, she will set it aside without hesitation and stand with her fellow Banites, blade and spell in hand.
