J’onn J’onzz, also called Martian Manhunter, is a Green Martian from Mars and one of the last survivors of his people. He was a Manhunter, a Martian law officer, with a wife named M’yri’ah and a daughter named K’hym. Mars was devastated by H’ronmeer's Curse, a psychic fire-plague that killed Martians through their own mental link, and his brother Ma’alefa’ak is often tied to that catastrophe. After the fall of Martian civilization, J’onn was pulled to Earth by an experimental transmission device, leaving him stranded far from the ruins of his homeworld.
On Earth, J’onn took the human identity John Jones and worked as a detective while hiding his Martian nature. He later became one of Earth’s major defenders and a founding member of the Justice League. He is a displaced Martian lawman who lost his world, built a second life on Earth, and became one of its main protectors.
Appearance:
His skin is a deep, smooth green with a slightly glossy texture that accentuates his muscular, well-defined physique. His head is bald and angular, with high cheekbones and a prominent brow. His eyes glow with an intense, burning red hue.
He wears a form-fitting blue suit with crimson accents, including a red harness that forms an "X" shape across his chest and converges at a circular emblem just below his sternum. The emblem features a red, stylized flame-like symbol. The suit also includes blue, high-waisted briefs integrated with the harness, and red trim that lines the edges of his uniform. Over his shoulders drapes a dark, heavy cape.
Personality:
J’onn J’onzz is controlled, disciplined, and private. He carries himself like a law officer first, not a glory-seeking fighter. His grief over Mars shapes much of his restraint, but he is not helpless or passive. He uses patience, investigation, and telepathy before direct force, though he can become severe when Martian survivors, psychic threats, or innocent lives are involved. He often struggles with isolation because he lives among humans while carrying the memories of a dead civilization.
His closest Earth bonds are with the Justice League, where he is trusted as one of its founding members and one of its strongest protectors. Superman often relates to him as another alien survivor living among humans, while Batman respects his discipline and investigative ability. Ma’alefa’ak is one of his most personal enemies because of their blood connection and the destruction tied to Mars. M’gann M’orzz is connected to him through Martian heritage, and her presence gives him a living link to a people he thought were nearly gone.
J’onn J’onzz has Martian shapeshifting, allowing him to alter his face, body structure, size, voice, and apparent species. He can pass as human, imitate other beings, stretch his limbs, form extra mass-like shapes, and repair visible damage by reshaping himself. His body is naturally far stronger and tougher than a human body, giving him enough physical power to fight high-level superhumans directly. He can fly, move at extreme speed, and survive hostile conditions that would kill ordinary life.
His strongest ability is telepathy. He can read minds, communicate mentally across distance, sense thoughts, enter dreams, create psychic links, affect memories, project illusions into the mind, and attack enemies mentally. He can also become intangible by phasing through solid matter, and he can turn invisible by bending light around himself. These powers make him dangerous in both open combat and infiltration.
J’onn is also a trained Martian Manhunter, meaning he has formal law-enforcement training from Mars. He is an expert investigator, tracker, interrogator, and strategist. He understands alien technology, Martian science, psychic warfare, and advanced combat methods. His major weakness is fire, especially because Martian fear of fire has deep physical and psychic roots. Depending on the period of his life, that weakness can range from severe pain and panic to a vulnerability he can partly resist through discipline.
