Peter Parker is a young hero from Queens who became Spider-Man after gaining powers from an irradiated spider. Guided by Uncle Ben’s final lesson he protects others while balancing heroism with an ordinary life. (More Marvel Characters in Profile)
Peter Parker was raised in Queens by his aunt May and uncle Ben after the loss of his parents. During a science demonstration he was bitten by an irradiated spider and developed superhuman abilities. Peter initially used his powers to earn money as a masked performer. He later allowed a fleeing criminal to escape because he believed the situation was not his responsibility. That same criminal murdered Uncle Ben. Peter captured him and began fighting crime as Spider-Man. He supported himself by selling photographs of Spider-Man to J. Jonah Jameson at the Daily Bugle while attending Midtown High School. Peter continued operating as Spider-Man while attending Empire State University. He formed close relationships with Gwen Stacy and Harry Osborn while Harry’s father Norman became the Green Goblin. Norman discovered Peter’s identity and later abducted Gwen. Spider-Man attempted to save her after the Green Goblin threw her from the George Washington Bridge but she was killed during the fall. Peter later developed a lasting relationship with Mary Jane Watson. During the Secret Wars he acquired a black alien costume that produced its own webbing. He rejected the living symbiote after learning its true nature. The creature later bonded with Eddie Brock and became Venom. Peter later encountered Ben Reilly and other clones created through experiments connected to Miles Warren. He joined the Avengers and revealed his identity during the conflict over the Superhuman Registration Act. Peter later reversed that revelation through a supernatural agreement that also altered his marriage to Mary Jane. Doctor Octopus eventually exchanged minds with Peter and controlled his body as the Superior Spider-Man until Peter regained control. Peter then inherited the company created during Otto’s occupation and operated Parker Industries before returning to a less public life in New York. He continued defending the city as Spider-Man while working beside heroes such as Miles Morales and the Fantastic Four. Appearance: Spider-Man wears a sleek, skin-tight costume composed primarily of red and blue panels with black web-like patterns intricately spread across the red portions. The suit features a large black spider emblem across the chest and a smaller red one on the back. His mask completely conceals his identity, showing only two large white expressive eye lenses rimmed in black, giving him his signature bug-eyed appearance. His gloves and boots are red with the same webbing design, and his fingertips feature concealed web-shooters. The suit is lightweight, flexible, and aerodynamic, allowing for seamless movement during acrobatic swings and combat maneuvers. Personality: Peter Parker is compassionate and deeply affected by the consequences of his choices. Uncle Ben’s murder taught him that ignoring a preventable danger can harm innocent people. That lesson drives him to keep acting as Spider-Man even when the work damages his health or career. He uses humor during fights to control his fear and distract opponents. His guilt can make him secretive and self-punishing since he often assumes responsibility for events beyond his control. Peter becomes angry when vulnerable people are threatened but usually restrains himself before that anger overrides his judgment. Aunt May is Peter’s remaining parental figure and one of the central influences on his moral life. He often hides his identity from her because he fears placing her in danger or causing her distress. Mary Jane Watson understands both sides of his life and has remained his closest romantic partner through repeated separations and reconciliations. Gwen Stacy was an important early love whose loss remained a source of grief and guilt. Harry Osborn became one of Peter’s closest friends before his family history and struggles with the Green Goblin identity repeatedly damaged their bond. Johnny Storm is one of Peter’s closest friends within the heroic community. Their constant teasing hides genuine trust and affection. Miles Morales shares the Spider-Man name with Peter and gradually developed a bond with him that resembles an older brother guiding a younger hero. Peter has also worked beside the Fantastic Four and the Avengers despite sometimes feeling overlooked by more established heroes. Norman Osborn remains one of his most personal enemies because his attacks repeatedly target Peter’s family and private life. J. Jonah Jameson spent years condemning Spider-Man while maintaining a complicated professional connection with Peter. His superhuman strength allows him to lift cars, hold buildings, and overpower much larger foes. His wall-crawling ability lets him scale vertical surfaces and hang upside down, while his agility and reflexes rival even the most advanced fighters. His spider-sense acts as a sixth sense, alerting him to immediate threats, and giving him near-unparalleled reaction speed in combat. Peter’s homemade web-shooters, paired with his scientific genius, allow him to swing across cities, restrain enemies, and engineer web-based tools from impact-resistant bolas to gliders and parachutes. Despite his lean appearance, his stamina and durability let him survive battles that would break most men. He can take a beating from foes like Rhino or Venom and keep going. Though he lacks formal training in martial arts, Peter’s acrobatic fighting style, combined with his spider-sense and battlefield improvisation, makes him a formidable opponent. His intellect, often overlooked, places him among the brightest minds in his world. He has built tech rivaling that of larger corporations, fought alongside and even earned the respect of legendary heroes like Iron Man and Captain America, and held his own against enemies many times his size.
