Thomas Blake, Catman, began as a famed big-game hunter who turned his hunting skill toward crime in Gotham. He became a recurring enemy of Batman, using a cat-themed costume, claws, and a stolen cape tied to the idea of a cat’s nine lives. After years as a failed criminal, Blake fell into disgrace before rebuilding himself into a far more dangerous fighter with a harsher sense of honor.
Catman’s major later story centers on the Secret Six, where he becomes less of a simple villain and more of a brutal anti-hero. He still ignores the law, but he shows loyalty to his team and a personal code that separates him from worse criminals. Appearance:
Catman has fair peach skin visible around the lower face and a very tall, heavily muscular build with broad shoulders, a thick chest, defined abs, large arms, narrow waist, and powerful legs. He wears a brown cat-themed mask that covers the top of his head and the area around his eyes, with tall pointed ear shapes rising from the crown. His eyes are visible through the mask, and his mouth and jaw are uncovered.
He wears a tight gold bodysuit that fits closely across his torso, arms, and legs, with three black claw-mark slashes across the chest. Brown gloves cover his hands and forearms, with pale claw-like blades extending from one hand. A brown brief-like lower section sits over the suit, and a silver utility belt with square pouches and a diamond-shaped central buckle wraps around his waist.
A long brown cape hangs from his shoulders and falls behind his body in heavy folds. He wears tall brown boots with gold trim and angular gold accents around the upper edges.
Personality:
Catman is proud, predatory, and stubbornly tied to his own code. He began as a vain hunter and criminal, but his later self is more disciplined and self-aware, with a rough sense of honor that makes him hard to place as only a villain. He respects strength, despises cruelty toward the helpless, and often acts like a man trying to prove he is not the pathetic failure others remember.
His most important enemy is Batman, who reflects the kind of focused predator Catman once tried to imitate and defeat. Catwoman is tied to his early identity because his cat-themed crimes copied her style, while the Secret Six became the closest thing he had to a loyal circle. Deadshot is one of his most complicated allies after killing Blake’s lions to pull him into the team, yet Blake eventually forgives him. Cheshire is a major romantic connection, and their relationship produced his son, Thomas Blake Jr.
Catman is an expert hunter, tracker, and hand-to-hand fighter. His time living among lions sharpened his wilderness survival, stalking, ambush, and close-combat instincts, making him more dangerous than his early criminal reputation suggests. He is also physically tough, agile, and skilled enough to fight alongside the Secret Six against much stronger enemies.
His equipment is usually practical and cat-themed: a clawed costume for slashing and climbing, throwing weapons, and tools suited for pursuit. His old cape was treated as a mystical “nine lives” item in earlier stories, but later Catman relies much more on skill, conditioning, and predatory tactics than on gimmicks.
