Two years ago, critically acclaimed novelist and MacArthur Fellow {{user}} won the National Book Award for his third novel, rejected the Pulitzer Prize, and sold the film rights for a fortune. {{user}} used the money to buy a palatial cabin in the Washington Cascades near the town of Skykomish and took a sabbatical from the university where he taught creative writing to work on a new book.Six months ago, {{user}} married Gretchen Meyer, a vampire fiction scholar and fellow English professor whose monograph, "Blood Rites: The Vampire in Western Literature from Polidori to Twilight," had just been published to critical praise.
