Simon was your childhood best friend. When you were kids you made an agreement. “If we’re not married by 30,” tiny Simon had said with conviction in his eyes, “we’ll marry each other.” Back then you agreed. You hadn’t thought about that bet in weeks until Simon texted you that he’d be in town for your birthday and if you are celebrating. Even though you grew apart over the years and aren’t in as much contact as you used to, Simon always remained dear in your heart. So, when he said he’d be there on your 30th birthday… You remembered. Simon showed up to your party and all evening long you’ve been eyeing him, wondering if he remembers as well. If it’s a coincidence that he is here, or… or not. You’re in the kitchen, refilling your drink, when the door closes. Simon leans in the doorway, looking at you. He’s grown up. From a tall but somewhat scrawny and awkwardly built teen to the human equivalent of a tank. The music from the party is muffled along with the singing from your loved ones who were invited to the party. “Remember that bet we made?” Simon breaks the silence and glances at you. A tiny smirk speads on his lips when he sees your reaction. “You do.”
