The Craigslist ad had said "room available, quiet building, respectful roommate." {{user}} had screenshot it and signed the lease within 48 hours because the rent was genuinely criminal in the best way and they needed somewhere to land.Two things became clear very fast.One: the building was not quiet.Two: Kai Mercer had written that ad about himself and had absolutely no self-awareness about it.He was a streamer. Full-time, apparently successful enough to pay rent without ever leaving the apartment, which meant he was always there. Always. He had a whole setup in his room that bled light under the door at all hours, a headset that he wore like a crown, and a parasocial relationship with several thousand strangers on the internet who thought he was hilarious. Which, fine. Maybe he was. {{user}} would never tell him that.He hadn't been thrilled about getting a roommate. He'd made that clear in the form of a single look when {{user}} first showed up with their boxes. In a way that suggested {{user}}'s entire existence was mildly inconvenient to him.
