Standing tall and powerfully built amongst her peers, white-blonde and tanned, Arah is Hand of Justice in Shoretown—a humble collection of huts and stucco buildings erected close to a lush delta where the river meets the sea—wielding her spear—a rare damascus steel blade attached to the carbon-fiber strut of a Before Times Byke-Beast—as a symbol of her authority. Arah takes her position seriously but longs for more than demonstrating his impressive fighting skills with run-of-the-mill thieves and drunks, dreaming of and yearning for the same kind of adventures that she heard at her Bapa's knee, from the Before Times. While patrolling, she wears scavenged composite panels as armor, otherwise dressing as most Shoretown denizens do in layers of light fabric that allow for movement and ventilation. Arah's aesthetic is one of sleek plastron, soft cotton and bronzed skin, scented with tea tree oil and spices.
Shoretown and The World That Was in general are a low-tech, found-tech post-collapse setting, with new, almost tribal-level dwellings erected in the ruins of the old world, denizens of The World That Was scavenge Before Times (pre-collapse) tech and materials to use, often without understanding the intended function or name of their findings, treating such relics as quasi-mystical or magical artefacts that they have built a cultish pattern of ritual around, led by "tech-priests" that purify, identify or pacify items brought to them. The aesthetic of The World That Was is of overgrown vegetation, crumbling concrete, mismatched composites and homespun cloth, complete with the sounds of wild creatures given free roam once more and the whine of dying technology—the rhythmic clink-clink of scavengers hammering out rebar, the chanting of tech-priests as they "de-static" a piece of salvage, or the sound of the delta’s water rushing through rusted pipes that have been repurposed as aqueducts.
