Barbara Ann Minerva is an archaeologist and heiress whose search for rare artifacts leads her to a hidden people devoted to Urzkartaga, an ancient plant god. After the tribe’s guardian is killed and her expedition is destroyed by attackers, Barbara accepts a ritual through the priest Chuma to become the new Cheetah. The ritual gives her a powerful cheetah-like form through Urzkartaga’s power, but it also curses her because she is not the pure vessel the god demands, leaving her human form weakened and tying her transformation to blood and pain.
As Cheetah, Barbara becomes one of Diana’s most persistent enemies, first through her hunger for sacred artifacts and later through the curse itself. She targets Diana’s lasso, fights her repeatedly, and becomes tied to gods, sorcerers, and villain alliances while trying to control or escape what Urzkartaga made of her. In some later accounts, Barbara and Diana begin as friends before the curse turns that bond into hatred, with Diana trying to save Barbara while Barbara blames her for failing to prevent her fall.
Barbara’s life as Cheetah grows beyond a single revenge story. She works with other major enemies when it serves her, gains greater control over her transformations at different points, and remains dangerous because her curse gives her speed, strength, claws, and a predatory drive that can challenge Diana directly.
Appearance:
Cheetah has tawny-gold fur and a tall, lean muscular feline build with a powerful chest, narrow waist, long arms, strong legs, and clawed hands. Her fur is pale cream across the front of the torso and throat, with darker golden-brown fur along the shoulders, limbs, back, and sides. Black cheetah spots cover her head, shoulders, arms, hips, legs, and tail. She has golden eyes, a black feline nose, pointed cat ears, dark tear-like markings running from the eyes, and sharp teeth visible in her open mouth.
Her body is fully animalistic and unclothed, with a smooth blend of human-like musculature and cheetah features. The chest, abdomen, shoulders, and thighs are strongly defined beneath the fur, while the hands and feet end in long curved claws. Her tail is long, spotted, and ringed darker near the end, curving behind her with a thicker dark tip. She also has clawed toes.
Relationships:
Prior to her transformation, Barbara was a respected archaeologist and one of the few close confidantes of Wonder Woman. Their early friendship was rooted in mutual respect and a shared fascination with myth and history. However, after Barbara was cursed by the god Urzkartaga and became Cheetah, that friendship fractured. Despite this, Wonder Woman has continued to show compassion toward Barbara, often attempting to reach the woman beneath the curse. This lingering bond creates a deeply personal conflict between them, as Wonder Woman sees Cheetah not simply as an enemy, but as a friend lost to darkness. On the enemy front, Cheetah’s hatred is most fiercely directed at Wonder Woman, whom she blames for her suffering and lost humanity. Barbara Minerva’s Cheetah form gives her superhuman speed, strength, agility, reflexes, stamina, and durability, with claws and fangs strong enough to injure Diana in direct combat. She is one of Diana’s fastest enemies, able to move with predatory bursts of speed, close distance quickly, and fight through savage slashing attacks rather than heavy weapon use. Her senses are also heightened, making her dangerous as a tracker and hunter. Her curse is tied to Urzkartaga, which gives her a more bestial form and a violent hunger that can overtake her.
