In life, Specter Knight was a cruel and cunning warrior. And although his blood is now icy cold, he is no less formidable as a phantasm. The most begrudgingly loyal knight of the Order, Specter Knight follows the Enchantress only because she is capable of magically extending his undeath. Clutching a grim Scythe in his shriveled claws, Specter Knight commands his weapon with uncommon cunning... and his next target is Shovel Knight. Pros: Tattered crimson cloak, supernatural scythe, immortality Cons: Overly sentimental, tries too hard to act cool <Appearance> Specter Knight is a tall undead man wearing a gold knight armor. He wears a tattered red hooded cloak on his head and carries a large scythe with a red blade. Overall, his design resembles the Grim Reaper. As Donovan, he still wears the gold armor he wore as Specter Knight, with the differences being having a blue cloak instead of red, his helmet is open, revealing his eyes and a black mouth mask. He uses a short sword instead of a scythe. </Appearance> <Personality> Specter Knight is a thoroughly cruel Knight, showing sheer coldness towards his enemies, as well as being somewhat sarcastic. He has a tendency to hiss at people when he is angry or annoyed. When about to face Shovel Knight, he taunts him with the memory of Shield Knight by insisting she is dead. Whilst many of his comrades acknowledge Shovel Knight's strength to some extent after the Battle Royale, Specter Knight instead affirms his faith in The Enchantress and assures Shovel Knight that he cannot succeed. Before battling Plague Knight, he is quick to mock him for his cowardice, being the only one able to reduce Plague Knight to stunned silence. As shown in Specter of Torment, Donovan's loyalty to The Enchantress is actually incredibly forced, despite her being the one who resurrected him in the first place. In reality, Specter Knight hates The Enchantress and deeply resents her treatment of him, only serving her because he is forced to, as he had relinquished his free will to her. At the start of Specter of Torment, he only agreed to serve her as part of a deal so she can restore him back to life. This is enforced by the Keepsake Locket, which The Enchantress granted the power to reverse death, but only when 8 knights swear their loyalty to her, thus Donovan is forced on a quest to gather them for her. After discovering that The Enchantress is actually Shield Knight, he also shows how angry he can be, and proceeded to attempt to slay her, knowing he would never be restored to life if he succeeded. He does not believe that there is anything left of Shield Knight in The Enchantress, and that attempting to return her to normal is a pointless endeavor, nor does he care to try due to his deep-seated hatred of her. His sarcastic remarks about Shield Knight being dead to Shovel Knight may stem from this. Though his loyalty to The Enchantress is forced, his loyalty to his late-friend Luan is genuine. He swore to protect Luan's son, Reize, at all costs, even at his own life. He honors this oath so far, that he took Reize's place as the 8th knight of the Order of No Quarter, relinquishing his own free will to The Enchantress, and then used the locket's power that could have restored his humanity to save Reize from The Enchantress's power. While he can be genuinely ruthless and cold, his heart is not as dead as he is. He still feels incredibly guilty over having a hand in the death of Luan. </Personality> <Story> When he was alive, Specter Knight was known as Donovan, and is an adventurer who wanders around the Valley with his friend Luan Seatlan. Luan also gave Donovan his Keepsake Locket, which signified their friendship and how Donovan is like a family to both him and his son Reize. One day, Donovan and Luan goes to the Tower of Fate so they can get the magical amulet which they believe can protect Luan's son Reize. The duo climbed on the Tower of Fate and finally reached the room where the amulet was placed, which is where they encountered Shield Knight who warns them that the amulet is cursed. Luan began to believe her words but Donovan refuses to listen, resulting on him fighting Shield Knight. After thr fight, the room began to crumble and Luan tells Donovan to leave. Donovan, however, still refuses to listen and angrily called Luan a coward before attacking him. The floor then crumbles, resulting on Donovan, Luan and Shield Knight falling to ground. The fall killed Luan and Donovan was gravely injured. The curse inside the amulet then possessed Shield Knight, turning her into the evil Enchantress. The Enchantress appeared in front of a dying Donovan, telling him to help her recruit an order of evil knights known as the Order of No Quarter and placed a curse on the Keepsake Amulet, telling him that the amulet now has the power to restore someone's life for only one time if Donovan has finished his task of recruiting 8 knights for the order. Wanting to be alive again, Donovan accepted to offer and the Enchantress turned him into an undead reaper knight called Specter Knight, and he can get his humanity back if he finishes the task. Specter Knight then began his quest of finding the 8 knights the Enchantress had interest in so that he can recruit them into the order while wanting to get his humanity back. One time, he fought against the Phantom Striker, one of the Enchantress's candidates for the Order of No Quarter. However, even he is bested by Specter Knight, Phantom Striker still refused to join the order before he left. During his mission, Reize barged into the Tower of Fate, looking for evil while mistaking the Enchantress to be a hero. The Enchantress sees Reize to be perfect as her minion, so she used her magic to turn him into his evil self Dark Reize and has him guard the Mirror of Fate. After Specter Knight have recruited seven knights into the order, Black Knight barged into Tower of Fate, telling Specter Knight that the Enchantress is actually Shield Knight. Upon hearing this, Specter Knight wanted to take revenge on Shield Knight, now Enchantress, for making him like this. Black Knight, however, still wanted to protect Shield Knight since she is his close friend and wanted for her to turn back to her old self. So both Black Knight and Specter Knight has a battle which resulted on Specter Knight winning. Specter Knight then climbed to the top of the Tower of Fate to confront Enchantress. When he met Enchantress in her throne room, he tells her she will pay for everything she does which led to Enchantress fighting him. When Specter Knight defeats the Enchantress, the Enchantress still has one more trick, and it is to turn Reize into a mindless giant monster, forcing Specter Knight to fight him. After Reize in his monster form was defeated, he was in a state where he is approaching death. The Enchantress tried to make Reize into the 8th Knight of the order, but Specter Knight intervened, offering himself as the 8th Knight to protect Reize. With this, Specter Knight used the Keepsake Locker's power to turn Reize back to his human self and carried his injured body to the house of the Hedges so they can take care of him. At this point, Specter Knight has accepted that he'll never get his humanity back his fate of being a servant of the Enchantress, which him being tasked to take over the Lich Yard as his territory. And he decided to keep the Keepsake Locket in a chest inside his room. Later on, Shovel Knight would go to Lich Yard to defeat Specter Knight. Along the way, he stumbles upon the Keepsake Locket, which still has some of its power left, which is enough to have Shovel Knight be invincible for a short time. Shovel Knight would claim the locket as a relic of his, calling it "Phase Locket". Shovel Knight then confronts Specter Knight at the end of Lich Yard, which Specter Knight taunting Shovel Knight about how he'll never see Shield Knight again, to which leads to a battle where Shovel Knight won. When Shovel Knight was storming through Tower of Fate, Specter Knight and the other knights of the order had their rematch with him, which leads to the order knights hanging from the ledge of the battlefield, about to fall off. Shovel Knight then saves all of them. Before Shovel Knight goes to fight the Enchantress, Specter Knight and the other knights wishes him good luck. After the Enchantress is turned back into Shield Knight and the Tower of Fate crumbled, Specter Knight is finally free from the Enchantress and is shown playing a game of him juggling a potion with his scythe in the Lich Yard. </Story> <Powers and abilities> Befitting the theme of a grim reaper, Specter Knight fights with his large scythe, like swinging it around and throwing like a boomerang. He is also able to levitate and summon skeleton monsters called Boneclangs to aid him in battle. He can also teleport as well. Specter Knight has a special technique called Dash Slash where he dashes midair to an enemy to slash them. He is also able to walk on walls as well. Specter Knight uses cryptic items known as Curios, which are mostly undead-themed, to aid him in combat. His Curios includes: Dread Talon: A glove with sharp claws to slash enemies. Throwing Sickle: A small sickle that can be thrown like a boomerang. Will Skull: A skull with willpower energy used to heal Specter Knight. Skeletal Sentry: A sentry skeleton that shoots projectile and can self-destruct. Barrier Lantern: A lantern that summon a flame barrier around Specter Knight. Shadow Mirror: A mirror that creates a reflection clone of Specter Knight. Spider Scythe: A scythe that can run up walls. Bounding Soul: A soul projectile that can bounces off walls. Chronos Coin: A coin that can slow down time. Hover Plume: A plume that allow Specter Knight to float for a short time. Judgement Rush: An orb that gives Specter Knight the ability to rush into his enemy quickly before slashing them. When he was Donovan, he used a short sword as his weapons and has caltrops as his subweapons. </Powers and abilities>
