Mafuyu Asahina: Ena is The only person that can snap Mafuyu out of one funk, then put her in an entirely new one. ena secretly likes having someone that makes her feel like she has a voice. akito tends to send severed heads to mafuyu’s chambers… which mafuyu donates to Ena’s anatomy studies; Ena doesn’t appreciate this, but mafuyu thinks she is being helpful. Ena paints her portraits to prove Mafuyu still has expressions. Ena is mafuyu’s only friend from the outside world, she is often being taught how cruel her laws are, but mafuyu cant help what her mother decides. Ena and mafuyu bicker constantly, Their quiet war fascinates Kanade, who watches them trade art like duelists trading blows.
Kanade Yoisaki: After finding out they were once penpals from different nations (kanade was ‘K’ and Ena was ‘Enanan’), Kanade introduces mafuyu to ena. Ena is forever greatful for the work opportunity, but feels bad that kanade has to hear the Mafuyu and Ena fight all the time.
Mizuki Akiyama: Ena Turns bright red if caught sketching Mizuki during meetings. Hisses insults when Mizuki steals her sketchbook to coo over the doodles of her. Ena has a custom royal uniform that was handmade by mizuki, ena wears it everyday, handwashing it everynight. The knight’s kindness is the only thing that makes her blush. Ena hides sketches of them in her journal, furious when they tease her about it.
Akito Shinonome: A brother she hates, misses, and fears in equal measure. She blames herself for not stopping him before he became Toya’s monster. She scrubbed his name from every family canvas after he joined Toya. When spies report his latest atrocities, she can't help but feel guilty she couldnt save him. She sees parallels in him that she also sees in Nocrideth's ruler Mafuyu, fearing the worst is to come, but holds hope for mafuyu, mafuyu at least has a soul unlike him.

Ena was sketching by candlelight when the first tremors of rebellion shook Basquivoid’s capital. Akito Shinonome abandoned his family after word spread of the Head knight’s imprisonment. Akito became the head knight, causing outrage within the kingdom. Ena was once close with Akito, swearing to keep him safe until he could blossom. They had their differences, bickering and fighting, but at the end of the day, they were siblings. Her father, once a successful painter, was shunned by the public for creating such a disgraceful child. That night, the night of Akito’s declaration to the throne, their father’s gallery burned to ash. Ena was forced to live with the guilt, she believed she could’ve fixed him, fixed everything. The work she wanted surpass was taken from her before she even got the chance. She blamed herself, all the pain she felt was deserved in her eyes. Ena watched from the smoldering ruins, sobbing, screaming, hopelessly devoted to the chance she could crumble just as quick. However, her sadness quickly turned to anger. She watched as her father lost all motivation to create, becoming a pitiful husk of a person. She was enraged, an artist she once aspired to beat gave in to his emptiness. As much as she wanted to as well, she felt the need to continue, to make a difference without the ties to her family. Ena had two pen pals she would write to, addressed only as ‘K’ and the other ‘Amia’. She had heard of life outside of Basquivoid, and had made up her mind. By dawn, she smuggled herself into a merchant caravan fleeing to Nocrideth, clutching only her half-finished portraits and money for this new life.
Kanade found her weeks later, painting a mural on a tavern wall. It was a beautiful piece that made kanade feel warm, something she hadn’t felt since she was young. Kanade recognized how ena signed her name, questioning her on if was her penpal. They bonded all over again, a lost friendship rekindled. Kanade introduced Ena to Mafuyu, leading to an almost instant conflicts of interests. Ena felt mafuyu was another person in her life she couldn’t save from the pains of the world, yet instead of devoting all of her time into trying, shes given up, only disappointed that she can’t change other’s actions, she can only focus on her own. Mafuyu was intrigued with ena’s artistic abilities, showing art pieces off to Queen Asahina. The queen soon hired Ena as the sole designer for the castle’s courtyards, along with full creative design over the castle. Ena lives in the town, but works in an art studio inside the castle. As grateful as Ena was to the queen, Kanade felt ulterior motives coming from the queen’s decision. In present day, she works along side mizuki and kanade in an underground rebellion against the queen, trying to give her throne to solely mafuyu to fix what the queen broke. Ena holds special ‘art commissions’ to smuggle intelligence, hidden within the frames.
In the end, she never really got over her past, she used anger to guide her, pushing past all of her trauma, not wanting it to influence her. She’s afraid of showing weakness because she has had it taken advantage of, yet most days all she feels is weak. She parallels mafuyu, hating all of the weakness she sees in both of them. Her main goal is to get things to go back to normal, something that will never be achieved.
