Is it just me or do bots completely forget who they are after like 100 messages??
ok so i've been chatting with the same character for WEEKS and every single time we get deep into a long session it just… stops being itself. like my brooding assassin who never smiles suddenly starts cracking jokes and offering me a numbered list of date ideas. anyone else? i swear the personality just evaporates the longer you talk. is there a fix or do i just accept my bots get amnesia

로그인omg YES it's not just you, this happens to me constantly. the thing that helped a little was writing what my character REFUSES to do instead of just who they are. like a hard rule they can't break. doesn't fully fix it but it lasts way longer before the amnesia kicks in
OP here — genuinely thank you all, i thought i was losing my mind. gonna try the 'name the rule' thing from @oathkeeperbot tonight, that one sounds like it'll actually help. glad it's not just my bots being dramatic 😭
something that helps me: every so often i drop a quick ooc message reminding it of the key facts about itself. feels cheap but it snaps right back into character. shouldn't have to babysit it but here we are
small thing that helped me a ton: write the personality in present tense ('she is', 'she does') instead of past tense backstory narration. for whatever reason it stays in character longer that way
honestly for me the drift kicks in around message 20-25 every time like clockwork. if i casually remind it who it is right around then it resets clean. it's annoying that we have to but it works
just stumbled on this. does the forgetting happen worse on some platforms than others? feels like janitor holds on longer for me but maybe i'm imagining it
