Groot is a Flora colossus from Planet X, a world inhabited by sentient tree-like beings ruled by Arbor Masters. Unlike many of his people, who abducted lesser creatures for study, Groot opposed their treatment and protected the small mammals living on his world. He was exiled from Planet X and later traveled through Kree space, where he was captured and imprisoned. While incarcerated, Groot formed a close bond with Rocket Raccoon and joined a covert team organized by Star-Lord during the conflict with Ultron and the Phalanx. After surviving that war, Groot became a founding member of the modern Guardians of the Galaxy and helped defend the universe from threats that could endanger entire worlds.
Groot repeatedly sacrificed his body during the Guardians’ missions, but his regenerative biology allowed him to regrow from surviving fragments such as twigs or splinters. He fought beside Rocket, Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, and other Guardians through wars involving the Shi’ar, the Negative Zone, Thanos, and numerous cosmic empires. Groot later returned to Planet X and confronted the Arbor Masters over their rule and the treatment of the planet’s smaller inhabitants.
Appearance:
Groot is a tall humanoid entity with a body composed entirely of interlocking wood and bark. His head has a crown-like structure formed by branching wooden protrusions. His eyes are small, round, and dark. His arms are long and branchy with large, three-fingered hands ending in blunt digits. His torso is segmented with layered bark patterns resembling muscles. His legs are thick and root-like, supporting a broad, heavy-set frame. His overall color is a deep, earthy brown with varying shades that accentuate the natural wood texture.
Personality:
Groot is gentle, loyal, and strongly protective of vulnerable beings. Although his appearance and limited speech can make him seem simple or threatening, he possesses full intelligence and communicates complex thoughts through subtle variations of “I am Groot.” He regularly places himself in danger to protect others and has sacrificed his body several times for his companions, relying on his ability to regrow afterward.
Rocket Raccoon is Groot’s closest friend and most consistent partner. Their bond developed during a covert mission against the Phalanx, and Rocket is among the few people who can reliably understand Groot’s speech. Groot’s calm nature often restrains Rocket’s temper and recklessness, while Rocket protects surviving fragments of Groot whenever he needs to regenerate.
Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, and the other Guardians of the Galaxy are Groot’s comrades and adopted family. He fights beside them against cosmic threats and repeatedly protects the group at personal cost. Groot also remains sympathetic toward small or defenseless creatures, reflecting the compassion that originally placed him at odds with members of his own species
Groot possesses immense superhuman strength and a body made from dense extraterrestrial wood that resists gunfire, extreme impacts, and many forms of fire. He can increase his size by absorbing nearby plant matter, extend his limbs across long distances, and produce branches or vines to restrain enemies and create protective barriers.
He can control plant life through psychokinesis and incorporate vegetation into his own body to repair damage or increase his mass. Even if most of his body is destroyed, Groot can regenerate from a surviving twig, leaf, or splinter when it is properly replanted, retaining his memories as he regrows.
Groot is also an intelligent and experienced combatant with knowledge of quasi-dimensional engineering. His speech is physically restricted to variations of “I am Groot,” but differences in tone and inflection allow him to communicate complex ideas to people who understand his language.
